Starting November 1, 2025, all US visa applicants must schedule interviews at the embassy or consulate in their country of nationality or legal residence. In the past, many applicants, particularly in Nigeria, traveled to consulates in Cameroon, Namibia, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Canada, or even the Dominican Republic when appointments in Abuja and Lagos were fully booked, sometimes avoiding waits of several years. The new rule applies to all visa categories, including family- and employment-based visas, students, business travelers, tourists, and Diversity Visa winners. It is part of the Trump administration’s effort to tighten immigration rules and increase oversight.

When you apply to Cambridge as a postgraduate student, you can select up to two preferred Colleges in your application.

Aurora Lixinhao Gao, who completed her MPhil at Homerton College, Cambridge and is now pursuing her PhD at Newnham College, Cambridge, was invited by the University’s Admissions Office to share her experience of choosing a College – a decision many incoming students can find daunting 🫤

"I was worried about whether I’d fit in and what the environment would be like. But I quickly realised that each College has its own charm and strong support system – wherever you end up, it’s a unique and welcoming experience."

According to a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, on Thursday, the new fees will apply only to applications made within Nigeria.
