Wike Heads Away From Confrontation With Nasir El-Rufia
• Affirms he likes El-Rufia's bluntness

By PHC Telegraph

Minister Nyesom Wike who probably likes to fight on Monday skilfully avoided what could have led to a head-on collision with Nasir El-Rufia, a former Governor of Kaduna State.

The incident which could have sparked off a row occurred during a media chat hosted by the minister in Abuja, the federal capital territory.

The media had sought to obtain his reaction to comments attributed to El-Rufia, but the Rivers strongman chose a middle course to avoid the pound-for-pound fighter from Kaduna State.

Wike, apparently respectful of El-Rufia's stance on issues of national interest, said he likes him because of his frankness.

But he said the former governor could not place Tinubu somewhere around the third position in the forthcoming race if he could not also say who would be in the first place and the second.

• Vows neither Atiku nor Obi will make it to the presidency in 2027‎‎

By PHC Telegraph

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory says no one in Nigeria can defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Wike who engaged the media in a live chat in Abuja monday morning took a swipe at Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, both leaders of the opposition, describing them as men who go from party to party in search of an opportunity to contest the presidency.

Neither Alhaji Atiku Abubakar nor Mr Peter Obi, Wike said, can openly square up with the President in the forthcoming presidential race.

He said they would be roundly defeated and warned those who want to bring Obi Back to the PDP of the danger such an action would pose.

The former Rivers Governor said former President Goodluck Ebele JonathanJonathan who is under pressure to join the presidential race enjoys enormous respect among world leaders.

LG Election Results Awaited In Rivers As RSIEC Records Low Voter Turnout
By PHC Telegraph

Results of local government elections conducted throughout the State by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, are being awaited.

According to information reaching our newsroom, results of the election which were taken to designated areas in the LGAs are being collated.

Thereafter, they would be taken to the RSIEC headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital before they are released to the public.

Meanwhile, most people of voting age today shunned RSIEC's electoral exercise, preferring instead on an election day to spend their day at home.

Correspondents who covered the election for various media organizations report that the hurriedly packaged local election was invariably marred by low voter turnout.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the stay-off-the-road order issued by the authorities was not heeded.

O.J Akiri Replies National Good Governance Advocates
• Says attack on Governor Fubara grossly misplaced

By PHC Telegraph

Chief OJ Akiri, a retired oil company executive and one-time Principal Secretary Government House has reacted to a statement credited to a group known as National Good Governance Advocates.

The group is quoted as saying that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been working behind the scene to smear the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Rear Admiral Ibo-Ete Ibas over financial dealings allegedly linked to his six-month administration.

"It goes without saying", Akiri noted "that this Group must be a mindlessly self-serving body of sycophants."

He described them as "opportunistic "wayfarers", awaiting some solid parting crumbs from the SOLAD's table."

Akiri said Fubara has main stoic silence and urged the group to respect the integrity of the governor.

LG Elections: D-Day Arrives
• Rivers people to choose grassroots representatives

By PHC Telegraph

Rivers people would be voting today to elect local government chairmen as well as councillors whose responsibility in the days to come would be to man council administrations.

If all goes well, the new rulers of the grassroots, offshoots of Nyesom Wike's political structure, would be expected to remain in office for three years.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, charged with the responsibility of organising free and fair elections appears ready.

Its officials including ad hoc staff would this morning arrive polling units across the State, according to RSIEC's official projections.

Despite initial concerns expressed by INEC, RSIEC is seemingly going ahead with the conduct of elections which critics insist do not comply substantially with dictates of the Electoral Act.

In the past, result sheets never got to the polling units.

Atiku Weeps For Nigeria
• Says the unending murder of Nigerians has become intolerable

By PHC Telegraph

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has cried out following the incessant slaughter of innocent and defenseless Nigerians by armed gangs.

Atiku who took to his official handle on X to condemn the latest killings in Katsina State accused the Federal Government of doing very little to deal with the frightening state of insecurity in the country, particularly in the North.

"The wanton killings of innocent Nigerians have reached the epidemic level" the former presidential candidate of the PDP remarked.

"Only on Tuesday, in Katsina, at least 27 innocent worshippers were massacred inside a mosque by marauding bandits during morning prayers.

"This attack was not just against a community; it was an assault on our collective humanity", Atiku stated.

APC: Fight Over Candidates Begin
• Matter may be resolved in Court

By PHC Telegraph

Hours after candid-ates of the All Progres-sives Congress, APC, were handed over party flags at the Elechi Amadi Polytechnic playground, a faction led by Chief Emeka Beke has forwarded a list of 'autenthic' candidates to the State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.

Beke who disclosed this in Port Harcourt says any list of APC candidates which has not emanated from his executive should be ignored by RSIEC officials.

Insisting that he is the authentic State party chairman, Emeka suggested that those who have been parading as party flagbearers may be impostors.

Beke's assertion has once again reopened claims and counter claims that have been associated with the APC.

It is however an indication that these factional disagreements, including the selection of candidates within the APC, which have not been wholly addressed might be settled in court.
