The Actors Guild of Nigeria, Directors Guild of Nigeria, and Association of Movie Producers have jointly released their final decision on the controversy involving filmmaker Peggy Ovire and actor Taye Arimoro, following their widely circulated altercation on a movie set.
In the statement released online by AGN President Emeka Rollas, the guilds revealed that their findings showed Arimoro was the primary aggressor.
It read, “The three guilds hereby issue the following unified position: Mr Arimoro was the primary aggressor, assaulting the Production Manager and the Driver. He circulated a false live video, misrepresenting the sequence of events and damaging the reputation of Producer Ms Peggy Ovire, who was not present during the initial altercation. The Director, Production Manager, and crew were not culpable in any wrongdoing.”
According to the sanctions, Arimoro has been suspended indefinitely from all Nollywood productions with immediate effect.
He is also instructed to issue a public apology to the production manager, Ovire, and the director of the film set in question. In addition, he must release a factual corrective video showing the true sequence of events during the altercation and complete the two scenes he previously refused to film, under supervision.
On Peggy’s part, the guilds stated that she did not initiate the confrontation but reacted emotionally when she followed the actor to the estate gate, which contributed to the escalation outside the compound. She is required to submit apology letters to the major guilds and to the estate management where the incident occurred. She is also expected to write an undertaking on behalf of her driver.
Reacting to the sanctions, Arimoro wrote on his Instagram page on November 28, 2025, that he had taken note of the verdict and would release a detailed response the following day. He stated, “My attention has been drawn to the joint statement from the AGN, AMP, and DGN. And to be honest, the statement given doesn’t capture the facts of the matter in any way, shape, or form! My management and legal team are aware of this, and I will provide a comprehensive response.”
The clash between Arimoro and Ovire, which erupted during a location shoot, stemmed from a heated disagreement involving members of the crew. The situation quickly escalated after a video recorded by Arimoro surfaced online, sparking public debate and prompting formal investigations by the major guilds before Arimoro proceeded to sue her.
Since the initial video went viral, Arimoro filed a 100 million naira lawsuit against Peggy Ovire, demanding compensation and a public apology. He described the alleged treatment as “unlawful, inhuman, and degrading.”
Ovire, through her lawyers, dismissed the claims as misleading, selective, and materially false. She also argued that the 100m demand was premature, noting that ongoing police and guild investigations make any civil claim legally questionable.
