Heavy Rains, Rising Waters: Flooding Affects Parts of Abuja Campus, Uniport.

As heavy rainfall continues across Rivers State, parts of the University of Port Harcourt’s Abuja Campus have also experienced flooding, affecting movement around some sections of the campus.

Our correspondent observed the situation around Dan Etete Drive, Ofrima Roundabout, UPWA International School, etc where accumulated water covered parts of the roadway and made movement more difficult for students and other road users.

Reports reaching us indicate that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chike R. Princewill Chike, was on a tour of some affected parts of the campus to assess the situation.

The flooding comes amid the heavy rains being experienced across Rivers State, with several communities and locations also recording varying degrees of flooding.

While the situation has temporarily affected movement in parts of the campus, students continue with their academic activities and ongoing examinations.

EDITORIAL: The Stories That Shaped Uniport This Previous Week.

The suspension of the indefinite ASUU strike has brought relief to students, with Management rescheduling the affected Second Semester Examinations and providing a clearer path towards completing the academic session.

Meanwhile, institutional advancement remains in focus as NITDA and iDICE move towards establishing a Technical and Robotic Centre of Excellence at Uniport. An Access Bank delegation also visited University Management to strengthen existing partnerships.

Student governance recorded notable developments, including SUG appointments, directives to Faculty Senators-elect, restrictions on private electric keke trips, and judicial decisions affecting scheduled congresses and the inauguration of Faculty Executives-elect.

Beyond administration, the Uniport community celebrated birthdays, leadership milestones, student achievements, and entertainment. We extend warm birthday wishes to Prof. Udeme Georgewill, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies; Dr. Lekpa David, Associate Professor of Anatomy; the 10th SUG Senate President and Chairman of RIVSILF; and the SUG President, Hon. Justice Adiele Aleruchi Azubuike.

Other highlights included the birthday edition of The Roast of MC Olaks, the SUG President’s attendance at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku inauguration, and the successful sign-out of Unique Stoary’s Volunteer Project Manager, Ebitimi Preye.

On the sports front, the scheduled football match, tagged Last Dance, has been postponed due to rainfall and the resulting stadium conditions. A new date will be communicated.

As academic activities continue and examinations enter their final week, we encourage students to remain focused, stay informed, and support one another. We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone who has successfully signed out, marking the completion of an important chapter in their academic journey, and to those signing out this week. Executive President Graces Inaugural Ceremony Of Federal College Of Education (Technical), Omoku.

The Executive President of the University of Port Harcourt Students' Union Government, Hon. Justice Adiele Aleruchi Azubike, on 24th September 2026, graced the inaugural ceremony of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, in Ahoada.

The Executive President was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Uranta Donald, the Director of Transport, Onuchukwu Samuel Ugochukwu, the Director of Welfare, Tabuka Muele and NANS Representative, Frank Egba.

The presence of the Executive President at the ceremony reflects the Students' Union Government's commitment to fostering meaningful relationships, supporting academic institutions, and identifying with significant developments within the educational community.

Uniport SUG Judiciary Reschedules Inauguration Of Faculty Executives-Elect.

The Judicial Council of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), University of Port Harcourt, has announced the postponement of the inauguration ceremony for all Faculty Executives-Elect.

The inauguration, initially scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2026, has been rescheduled to Monday, October 5, 2026.

According to the official notice, the postponement is necessitated by scheduling constraints arising from the recent impromptu ASUU strike, which disrupted examination timetables and the broader academic calendar across faculties.

Faculty Electoral Committees that are yet to establish contact with the Judicial Council are urged to do so urgently ahead of the rescheduled inauguration date.

The notice was signed by the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Clement Hope Onyinyechi, and the Deputy Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Nwinuka Biaka Leeleebari.

UPDATE: Uniport GSA Officially Suspends Congress.

Following the court order from the GSA Judiciary Council, the Executive Council of the Graduate Students' Association (GSA), Uniport, has officially suspended the earlier scheduled Congress until further notice.

The official memo was jointly signed by the Executive President, Nnamdi Samuel Nwala, and the Secretary, Victor Jumbo. They noted that a new date, time, and venue will be communicated to all postgraduate students in due course.

DEVELOPING: Uniport GSA Judiciary Restrains Executive President, Stays Scheduled Emergency Congress.

The Judiciary Council of the Graduate Students' Association (GSA), School of Graduate Studies, University of Port Harcourt, has issued an Interim Order for the Preservation of Status Quo restraining the Executive President, Mr. Nnamdi Samuel Nwala, from convening or presiding over the Emergency Congress slated for Friday, September 25, 2026.

Key details from the court order issued today, September 24, 2026:

* Stay on Emergency Congress: All mobilization, processes, and arrangements regarding the proposed Emergency Congress are stayed pending the resolution of a petition currently pending before the Senate against the Executive President.

* Maintenance of Status Quo: All members and organs of the association are directed to refrain from any actions capable of undermining the court order or interfering with ongoing proceedings.

* Purpose: The order aims to preserve fairness, institutional stability, and the integrity of the Senate’s investigation without prejudging the merits of the allegations.

The order was signed by Chief Judge Justice Ugochukwu Nkajoe and Court Registrar Justice Saviour A. Johnson.
