Rivers State Executive Council has cancelled the One hundred and thirty four billion naira contract for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat, earlier awarded during the period of emergency rule.

Addressing Journalists the State Executive Council Meeting, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works, Dr. Austin Ezekiel-Hart said the Rivers State Executive Council also approved the revalidation of the bidding process for the earlier advertised shoreline protection, reclamation project and renovation of the Rivers State Secretariat complex.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information, Mr. Honor Sirawoo said the Council has directed directed the flood committee headed by the Deputy Governor to take immediate action to address flooding in the state and cautioned residents against blocking drainage channels.

Mr. Sirawoo added that Governor Fubara urged members of the Executive Council to be proactive in their various ministries and deliver quality services to the people.

The General Manager of Treasure 98.5 FM, Port Harcourt, Mrs. Ogechi Cameron, has charged staff to uphold professionalism and teamwork in delivering the station’s mandate to inform, educate, and entertain the public.

Mrs. Cameron made this known during a staff forum held to chart a new course for the station since her assumption of office. She emphasized the need for renewed dedication and strategic thinking to make Treasure FM one of the leading radio stations in Rivers State.

On staff welfare, the Head of Presentation, Deborah Onyeocha, commended management’s assurance to prioritize staff motivation, saying it would inspire greater productivity.

Also speaking, the RATTAWU Chapter Chairman, Mr. Anietie Akpan, described the forum as a timely and welcome development, urging all staff to cooperate with management to achieve the station’s objectives.

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He made the announcement earlier on Wednesday at the exco chamber in the Bayelsa State Government House.

According to the governor the chairmen of all the local government areas will move with him.

Although the governor did not give specific details why he left the party, he mentioned that it was for "obvious reasons"

His decision was backed by 23 members of the House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Abraham Ngobere.

Diri’s defection came 24 hours after his Enugu State counterpart, Peter Mbah, dumped the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) has been approved by the National Council of State as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This was announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, following the Council’s meeting in Abuja.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented Amupitan, a Professor of Law from Kogi State, as the nominee to replace Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who served from 2015 to October 2025.

According to the statement, Council members unanimously endorsed Amupitan’s nomination, describing him as a man of integrity and professionalism.

His name will now be forwarded to the Senate for screening in line with the constitution.

In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, Dr. Banigo explained that probe does not necessarily mean indictment, but an opportunity for rtd. Vice Admiral Ibas to give account of how the finances of the state were expended during the emergency rule, and to clear doubts in the minds of people.

On the cancellation of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Rivers State, Dr. Banigo, who had earlier expressed concern about the poor sanitary condition of the State, said the cancellation may not be unconnected with the overzealousness of the sanitation officials.

Dr. Banigo suggested that when eventually the monthly sanitation is re-introduced in the state, there should be extensive public enlightenment of the citizens on the essence of the exercise, while defaulters of the sanitation laws should be penalized by a mobile court.

Dangote Refinery: PENGASSAN Declares Nationwide Strike

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has instructed its members nationwide to withdraw their services following an alleged mass dismissal of some Nigerian workers by Dangote Refinery.

This was announced in a circular issued after an emergency National Executive Council meeting on Saturday, September 27, 2025, and signed by General Secretary Lumumba Okugbawa.

The union is accusing the refinery of violating Nigeria’s labour laws, the Constitution, and International Labour Organisation conventions by dismissing workers for joining the association.

It alleges the refinery has replaced the dismissed staff with “over 2,000 Indians,” calling the action “an affront to all workers in Nigeria.”
