Rivers State Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, says his administration has stabilized the state under extraordinary circumstances, laying a foundation on which River’s people must now build to make the state a model of good governance in Nigeria.
Retired Vice Admiral Ibas speaking during a public lecture themed Democracy and Good Governance, admonished Rivers’ people to recommit themselves to tolerance, reconciliation, and the collective destiny of the state.
The Administrator recalled the recent thanksgiving service held at the Ecumenical Centre to appreciate God for the peace and safety enjoyed in the state over the past six months, describing the public lecture as an affirmation that governance must always be rooted in service.
Delivering his lecture, Guest Speaker Professor Abiodun Amuda-Kannike underscored the need for inclusivity, empowerment, and sustainable policies to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process. He urged leaders to go beyond monetary handouts to genuinely empower citizens, especially women and youths, and to foster a culture of dialogue, respect, and forgiveness
