NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said the proposal is part of ongoing consultations with the Federal Government and organised labour aimed at improving workers’ welfare while ensuring the wage remains sustainable for governments at all levels.

Nigeria’s current minimum wage stands at ₦70,000, although some states are already paying above the national benchmark.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, has insisted that the Chief Tony Okocha-led State Executive Committee remains unaffected by the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt.

In a statement, Publicity Secretary of the Party, Mr. Chibuike Ikenga, declared that there is no threat to the status of the party leadership, pending the full trial of the substantive suit.

Reacting to the development, the Rivers APC leadership clarified that the appellate court's decision did not amount to a final determination of the issues in contention and that the substantive case had been returned to the High Court for trial.

According to the party, interpretations suggesting that the judgment had automatically invalidated the Okocha-led executive or altered the leadership structure of the APC in Rivers State were inaccurate and misleading.

The party further disclosed that its legal team had commenced a review of the appellate court's judgment and would determine the appropriate legal response after obtaining and studying the full text of the decision.

While urging members and supporters to remain calm, the APC accused some individuals of deliberately distorting the facts surrounding the judgment to create confusion within the party.

The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC has appealed a Federal High Court ruling restraining it from enforcing parts of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code used to sanction broadcast stations and presenters over alleged bias and failure to maintain neutrality.

The appeal followed an interim injunction granted by Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Lagos, which stopped the commission from using a recently issued “Formal Notice” to threaten, sanction or punish broadcasters for purportedly “expressing personal opinions as facts, bullying or intimidating guests, or failing to maintain neutrality.”

The ruling was delivered following an ex parte motion filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP and the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE.

However, in its Notice of Appeal the NBC expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s decision and asked the Court of Appeal in Lagos to set aside the ruling.

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by its 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has announced plans to hold a national convention and set up an interim leadership to steer the party’s affairs.

Speaking in Abuja, spokesperson Norman Obinna said the decision followed an emergency NEC meeting aimed at resolving the party’s lingering leadership crisis.

The group accused the former leadership under Ralph Nwosu of attempting to unlawfully hand over control of the party and sideline state chairmen. It also revealed that legal actions have already been filed to challenge these moves.

The faction further distanced itself from a rival coalition linked to key political figures, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, insisting their actions do not represent the ADC.

It also dismissed claims by Nafiu Bala Gombe to any leadership role within the party.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently removed the names of some party leaders from its portal following a court order, further complicating the situation.

The faction says it has now constituted an interim leadership and is urging INEC to recognise it, warning that the party risks collapse if urgent steps are not taken.

The ADC, which has attracted notable political figures like Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, is positioning itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Independent Broadcast Association of Nigeria (IBAN) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have called on Nyesom Wike to retract and apologise over a remark he made about Seun Okinbaloye of Channels Television.

During a media chat, Wike reacted to Okinbaloye’s analysis on Politics Today, saying, “If there was any way to break the screen, I would have shot him.” He later clarified the statement was not meant literally, while his aide described it as “hyperbolic.”

Despite this, IBAN says such comments from public officials are inappropriate and risk intimidating journalists. The association warned it may boycott all media engagements involving the minister if he fails to apologise.

The NUJ also expressed concern, stressing that journalists are not enemies of the state but key players in democracy. The union urged Wike to withdraw the statement and called on the Federal Government to reaffirm its commitment to press freedom.

Both bodies emphasised that protecting journalists is essential to a healthy democracy, especially as Nigeria faces ongoing challenges related to media freedom.
