The poor state of primary and secondary schools across Ogoniland is raising serious concern among residents and educationists.
A visit by *Rhythm News* to several schools in Khana Local Government Area — including Beeri High School and Government Secondary Schools in Luumene, Luawii, and Buako — revealed dilapidated classrooms, leaking roofs, broken furniture, and overgrown compounds.
In many cases, there were no teachers on site, only a few students loitering around the deserted premises.
Residents say the situation has forced many children to abandon school or trek long distances to neighbouring communities for better learning conditions.
Community leaders in Khana described the neglect of public schools as “unacceptable” and a betrayal of the government’s promise to improve rural education. They urged the Rivers State Government to urgently recruit teachers and rehabilitate the decaying structures.
A school principal, who spoke anonymously, disclosed that several appeals have been made to authorities but without any response.
