Rivers: FG Has No Reason Not To Tackle Soot Menace -Cleric..Lauds Correspondents For Beaming Searchlight On Environment
Barth Ndubuwah,Port Harcourt

A man of God in Rivers State and General Overseer of Abundant Life Evangel Mission(ALEM) International Church, Apostle Eugene Ogu, has declared that the Federal Government has the capacity to stop the soot pollution in Rivers State, but has deliberately refused to do so, for reasons best known to them.
Ogu made the allegation Sunday in Port Harcourt, when members of the Correspondents' Chapel visited his Church for thanksgiving to mark the end of their 2019 Press Week.
The man of God commended members of the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Rivers State, for their commitment to protect the environment in the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large.
Ogu also lauded the journalists for remembering to thank God for his mercies, stressing that man could not achieve anything without the grace of God.

"There is lack of commitment to the problem facing the masses of this country. Government has the capacity to stop the Soot in just one day.

The government has the capacity to stop any of its agencies that is involved in the menace of Soot in Rivers State. If it is the Police that is involved, government can stop it. If it is the Army, government can stop it and if it is the Navy, government can stop it," Ogu fumed.

He called on the media, especially members of the Correspondents' Chapel of the NUJ to be more committed to the reportage of the soot menace ravaging the environment, especially in the Niger Delta region.
"Your profession does wonders around the world. Great Press cannot be compromised; great press does investigative journalism. Great press are not influenced by bribe, by money or any kind of influence to say what is right.

The press needs to give 24 hours commitment to this menace called soot. The press should not just talk or write about it, follow the Ministry of Health until we know what they are doing about it," the Cleric advised.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Correspondents' Chapel of the NUJ in Rivers State, Sir Ernest Chinwo, said the group came to thank God for his guidance and protection all through the year, especially during the 2019 general elections in Rivers State and the November 16, 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa State.

Chinwo said the 2019 Press Week was devoted to raising awareness and getting stakeholders on issues of environment as it affects Rivers State, coupled with the ongoing clean-up of Ogoniland. # #

Breaking News. Ohanaeze crisis: Nwodo’s replacement will emerge soon –
Youth wing Published on April 10, 2018 By Emmanuel Uzodinma

The Youth Wing of the apex-Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Tuesday hinted that a replacement for the embattled President-General of the group, Chief John Nnia Nwodo is on the way.

DAILY POST recalls that the Youth Wing and the Women wings of the Ohanaeze had on Sunday announced Nwodo’s suspension as the President-General. Nwodo had also said the two wings lacked the powers to suspend him.

But in another statement made available to DAILY POST, which was signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President, Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, Secretary General, and Comrade Achuonye Obinna, Vice President, they said there was no going back on Nwodo’s suspension.

While hailing intervention of prominent Igbo leaders over the crisis rocking the Igbo group, they, however, said for the Ohanaeze to move forward, Nwodo should remain suspended, while an acting President-General should be appointed from Enugu State to complete his term.

The statement reads in part, “we, the leadership and members of the Ohanaeze Youth Wing, OYW, hereby wish to inform our teeming members, supporters and reading public that the war declared against our fold and freedom of thought and association by the self-estranged and suspended President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo who wanted to force the Ohanaeze youth and women wings into his political lobby camp for the actualization of his Northeast anointed presidential candidate and for our vehement opposition to one person lording it over on Igbo nation just to make a living, has finally yielded fruits.

“Some respectable Igbo elders, leaders of thought, captains of industries and intelligentsias have not only intervened but agreed to convene and as well invited us to this weekend’s “SAVE OHANAEZE NDIGBO” meeting in Owerri, Imo State, with the intent to strategize and reposition Ohanaeze Ndigbo, for the return of Igbo cultural nationalism, pan social order and rule of sensible leadership cm mutual respects for the integral organs and compact leadership in Ohanaeze Ndigbo. We will attend, to brief them more on Nwodo’s charades in veil of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“We are also made to know that there would be likely change of guards in the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and election of a national Acting Steering Committee of Ohanaeze Ndigbo with a vibrant and good headed Enugu state citizen, to complete the tenure of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo presidency presently zoned to Enugu state.

“It may also be interesting to inform the Igbo nation and the reading public that we have been receiving extra-intimidating concerns through calls and direct body contacts lauding our bold moves and struggles to reset Ohanaeze Ndigbo guiding principles and philosophy and rescue it from Nnia Nwodo’s one man show for the popular good and growth of peaceable and sociable behaviour and integrative leadership.

“Therefore, we confidently tell the unsuspecting public and readers to discountenance faith in Nwodo self-effacing and diminishing politics since the leaders, movers and shakers of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Igbo nation have moved-in to salvage Ohanaeze Ndigbo from his greedy self-aggrandizement, power drunkenness and misinformation – thereby, speaking from both sides of his mouth to making disgusting misrepresentation of Igbo interests and Ohanaeze Ideology.”

They added that “to this breakthrough, having teeming supporters, home and diasporas decrying Nnia Nwodo’s Ohanaeze Ndigbo arbitrary leadership, we say, yes, Ohanaeze Ndigbo afresh in our minds.

“Meanwhile, we are waiting for Nnia Nwodo and his so-called cash and carry elections into the Youth and Women wings of Ohanaeze Ndigbo for resisting his authoritarian rule.

“We advise well meaning and good thinking Igbo youths and women to ignore Nwodo’s antics of a drowning man because whatever he does is without authority. We will not rest on our The Twelve Oars

POLITICS2019: Ohanaeze President, Nwodo gets 7-day ultimatum, receives vote of no confidence.

Published on April 3, 2018 By Daily Post Staff

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo appears to be heading for the rocks.
This is as the various wings of the Igbo group are heading for different direction over their stand on the election.

DAILY POST reports that the Ohanaeze Youth Congress, OYC, in a statement issued on Monday accused the President General of Ohanaeze, Chief Nnia Nwodo of mortgaging the interest of Ndigbo.

The OYC statement followed its meeting held in Enugu, where it passed a vote of no confidence on Nwodo, who they accused of sidelining other members of the Ohanaeze National Executive Council.

The statement was signed by OYC President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the Secretary General.

It read it parts: “It is with great sense of dismay and clear picture of the present debased Ohanaeze politics that we the fledgling members of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, summoned an emergency security meeting and met today, April 2nd, 2018 being Easter Monday, because it has dawned on us and every other conscious Igbo that the President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo has not only lost leadership mantle but veered out of the way and is hell bent to push the Ohanaeze and Ndigbo to a political cul-de-sac.

“We averred that it is high time Ndigbo rose up before Nwodo commits political su***de that would burn our hands and identity and it will only need articulate youths and wise elders and technocrats to rescue Ohanaeze Ndigbo from Nwodo’s clique and thereby, save Igbo Nation from plausible political su***de.”

The statement claimed that “out of 24-man executive of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nwodo uses an illegal organ of Forum Of States’ Presidents against the Constitution Of Ohanaeze to subdue, intimidate and humiliate other Ohanaeze Ndigbo executive members and thereby, forming a cabal and constituting a menace against the democratically elected members of Ohanaeze youths and women.

“In view of the foregoing, we the Ohanaeze Youth Wing, OYW presently at the receiving ends of Nwodo’s political forays and not in a haste to adopt or support any presidential candidate to avoid a repeat of the Igbo’s 2015 fate choice, that he pressures for, hereby, passed votes of no confidences on Chief Nnia Nwodo and his Ohanaeze Ndigbo presidency and we give him 7 days to appear before the Ohanaeze Disciplinary committee to explain and answer for his political infidelity against Igbos.”

They listed what they called issued before Nwodo to include: “Why did he go against the Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s tradition and Constitution and abused his office by paying loyalty to Alh Atiku Abubakar immediately after his election on 10h January 2017,and after he was queried by his NEC, he told them that his 1st official visit to Atiku,a Northerner, was to discuss the ill-health of President Buhari, who he believed is in bad condition;

“He has rendered the office of the secretary General Impotent, which according to Ohanaeze Constitution is the engine room of the organization and custodian of Ohanaeze Secretariat. He carefully appointed Director of Administration without Ime Obi approval thus assuming the powers of Secretary General through his political appointee, Director of Administration;

“He has closed down the Publicity Department of Ohanaeze by not giving the Publicity Department the liberty which his friend the spokesman of Afenifere enjoys, rather he is now the President General and Publicity Secretary using his media aide against the official spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo;

“He has failed to audit the accounts of Ohanaeze within the last 12 months against the Ohanaeze Ndigbo constitution, which recommends for a periodic audit and accountability.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo is a social cultural organization but he has converted it into a political organization; he already has a presi

Another Bombardment to d Nigeria state by fearless Catholic Clergy Bishop Matthew Kukah. . Pls hear him--

From Bishop Matthew Kukah

Anyone who thinks the Biafra agitation is a nuisance and irritating should know that it is not the collective aspiration of all Igbos but especially that no one has the monopoly of nusinace. Nuisance begets nuisance. When you stay with potash loaders you too will share in their dusty hair. It is in this country that the same standards are not held against all. Some can get away with anything but others cannot get away with something. I shudder at those who blame the agitators for agitating. Everyone knows what is good for them. If you don't know what is good for you then shut up and don't obstruct those who know what is good for them. If I have my way I will cease to be a Nigerian because there is no sense of nationhood. Those who have leverage over others use it to oppress them. Otherwise how can you explain the audacious impunity of a certain section of this country. They can intimidate everybody even a sitting president and get away with it. When GEJ was president he was literally harassed by this same people until they sent him packing and we thought they will be appeased. But a las we were mistaken!

Now how do I love a country where a murderous terrorist group like the herdsmen acclaimed even internationally as deadly is being openly defended by a govt. that wants my loyalty. Do you know as I make this comment, a first class Chief of Bokkos LGA in plateau state was murdered by a certain group of Fulanis almost a year now and no one has been arrested not to talk of prosecution; there are many villagers in my parish who cannot go to farm again except to farm their backyard because their farms have been forcefully annexed by their Fulani murderers; that in Bokkos a wife and a daughter can be taken away right before her husband or father and be repeatedly r***d then released at the convenience of the barbaric Fulani tribesmen and no one dares talk; police will advise you to go and settle the matter through dialogue? I want independence from a country where terrorists are embraced and agitators are terrorized.

At the slightest excitement Hausa or Fulani man can kill you and get away with it; it has happened and continues to happen but when you gear up to defend yourself because security will not, then you are caught by the same security who will lecture you on how to be peaceful and law abiding. This country will end unless there is justice for all. Rubbish! I hate the lie that Nigeria is. Let's say the truth and die but it is what will set us free. Nigeria is negotiable to me the oppressed even if it's not to the oppressor and that is normal.
"The only right Nigerians concede to you is the right to agree with them" - Bishop Kukah

Benue massacre: Doyin Okupe provides shocking revelations on Fulani Herdsmen.

“The failure to protect the citizens is the liability of the Federal Government of Nigeria and its armed forces. Most Nigerians and international bodies do not understand the Fulani herdsmen problem and we at CACLD did not initially. We therefore dispatched a fact finding team to the Southeastern part of the country to unravel the intricacies and complexities of the Fulani terrorist group; a group rated as the fourth most dangerous by respected international conflict organizations (According to the Global Terrorism Index 2015 report).

“Our fact finding team visited interviewed neighbors from the local communities living within and around the Hausa communities. Both the Northerners and the local community were very open and volunteered valuable information to our team. There seems to be a willingness and eagerness for the violence to end. Below are our findings:

“The Fulani Herdsmen terrorists do not own cattle: This is another revelation that may come as a surprise to many. Fulani herdsmen killers’ major job description is just to kill. They do not own any cattle. Most of them are employed by the cattle owners as “security men” whose job is strictly to protect the cattle. They do not however follow the cattle around, but move in separate vehicles along a defined route within the states where cattle are being reared.

“The cattle are owned by more prominent Fulani leaders in the country. Most Nigerian Fulanis are no longer migratory herdsmen, but are either Emirs, Sultans, heads of parastatals, oil barons, Imams, Governors, Federal Reps, and Senators. However, they still maintain their cultural ownership of cattle.

“These wealthy Nigerians increase their wealth astronomically through cattle rearing by using their not-well-off brothers from outside Nigeria to rear these cattle. Instead of investing in ranches and buying of grasses from the South, they chose the cheaper alternative of having their kinsmen, imported from outside the country, take these cattle from the north to south seasonally; using the entire Nigerian space as their ‘grass kingdom’. These cattle, in turn, destroy farms in their path, rendering farmers economically bankrupt to further enrich the wealthy Fulani “remote herders.

“For clarity sake, let us present the breakdown of Fulani people in Nigeria as we deduced from our investigation.

“There are about 5 million Fulani people in Nigeria making them one of the smallest ethnic groups in the country.

“Out of the 5 million Fulani people, only about 3 million of them are Nigerians. The remaining 2 million come from outside the country and are first generation immigrants.

“About 60 percent of the Fulanis in Nigeria are governors, Imams, Emirs, Sultan, House of Rep members, Importers, Exporters, Ministers, Oil well owners, lecturers, Vice Chancellors, Ministers, and Senators etc. In a nutshell, the Fulani control all sectors of the northern economy. These rich Fulani’s own all the cattle being reared in Nigeria.

“The remaining 40 percent of Fulanis come from outside the country. These are the poor and peasant Fulanis. These immigrant Fulani’s are mostly in charge of the cattle owned by the Bourgeois Fulani. Because the Fulanis have the highest income per capita in the Nigerian state (Fulani’s who are Nigerians), they constantly need to import their poor brothers and sisters from outside the country to increase their population and to help with menial jobs. The Fulanis always either marry into rich families or they would marry only Fulani to maintain their pure race.

“Lastly, there is a group of Fulani herdsmen who rear the cattle from the north to the south. These are at the bottom of the Fulani Herdsmen ladder. Some of them do not even know how to speak English and are so poor that they are paid just a little amount of money for their job. These herdsmen do not carry guns. They only carry arrows and machetes to help them navigate the bushes on their way down to the South.

“We learned from the surrounding communities and from some of the Hausa elders about what constitutes a Fulani herdsmen attack. According to information we received, when there is a disagreement between host communities, or between herdsmen and farmers, the Fulani herdsmen who accompany the cattle will locate the nearest Fulani settlement. When they arrive, they will narrate their story.

“The Fulani (Nigerian middlemen) cattle managers will notify their top Fulani Herdsmen which in this case, include governors (like El Rufai) and other top Fulani Bourgeois who own the cattle. A decision will be made about whether there should be an attack or not on the said village or host community. If an attack is sanctioned, then modalities will be mapped out and a date will be chosen for the attack. Most times, Fulani herdsmen in the military and police are notified and everyone sends a representative. Neighboring settlements sends out representatives and arms cache are opened and arms are distributed to the participants. The major participants are the 20 to 40 Fulani herdsmen whose job is to kill.

“During an attack, every Fulani person in the area knows there will be an attack and all will contribute to make sure it goes on successfully. Fulanis in the higher levels of the military will ensure all commands under them stand down, and the top Fulani police officers will do the same. The road is then clear for the Fulani herdsmen to carry their attacks.

“Next time when we talk about a herdsmen attack, we must understand that the attack was not carried out by the herdsmen you see escorting cattle on the roads and bushes. These attacks are well coordinated and sometimes involves the approval of senators and influential men in Abuja. Even our president Mohammed Buhari has a herd of cattle and hence is a Fulani herdsman, corroborating the information we received from respondents on ground. Fulani herdsmen attacks involves all Fulani ethnic members in Nigeria. Most times, these attacks happen only because “respectable men” sanction them.”

A former aide to the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, has spoken concerning the incessant attacks and killing of Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen. P

Sanusi Lied On Fulani Genocide Claim -CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Taraba State, yesterday, described as outright false the claim by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi that over 800 Fulani people were killed in Taraba, last year.
Sanusi had in an interview with journalists, last week, alleged that in one weekend, 800 Fulani people were killed on the Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State.
“I personally handed over to the Federal Government a dossier with the name and pictures of 800 Fulani people slaughtered in Taraba as well as names of persons known to have participated in the act of ethnic cleansing but nothing has been done,” Sanusi alleged.
But CAN in a press statement issued in Jalingo, yesterday, and signed by the CAN Chairman in the state, Rev. Dr. Ben Ubeh, the association debunked the claim by the emir, and urged him to stop fuelling false propaganda and wooing sentiments for his kinsmen who are in actual sense, killing people on a daily basis in some parts of the country.
“The records are there in most of the national dailies that reported the communal clash on the Mambilla, last year. NGOs, UNCHR and other international organizations visited the Mambilla in the wake of that crisis, but in all of these the highest number of death recorded from both side was 18.
“How is it possible to manipulate the figures and force all the different agencies to report 18 death figure. Obviously, the 800 Fulani people that were slaughtered according to Sanusi only existed in his imagination,” the statement said.
While calling on the Federal Government to drop the idea of cattle colonies, but assist herdsmen to build private ranches, CAN urged the Federal Government to look into the plight of the over 10,000 internally displaced persons currently in camps as a result of herdsmen attacks in the state.
The association called on all Nigerians to rise up and condemn the killings currently going on in the country, even as it urged people to be vigilant and pray fervently for peace in the land.

Buhari hurriedly building railway to Maradi in Niger Republic?January 8, 2018AdministratorCOVER STORIES,FEATURES,HEADLINES0— Posted by Uruwayino Warami —For some reasons unknown to me, Nigerians are no longer paying attention tothings that matter about the way they are being ruled. They no longer pay attention to some of the things their rulers say. Otherwise, a strange item in President Muhammadu Buhari’s New Year Day speech should have brought millions of Nigerians to the streets in angry protests. When first I listened to the President making that speech I could not believe my ears. So I had to wait until the mainstream media published the full text of the speech, and there it was in cold print: “Negotiations are also advanced for the construction of other railway lines, firstly from Kano to Maradi in Niger Republic passing through Kazaure, Daura, Katsina, Jibia to Maradi”.Maradi is the third largest city in Niger Republic with a predominant Hausa/Fulanipopulation. It is about an hour’s drive through a bumpy road from Jibia, the border town near Buhari’s hometown, Daura, in Katsina State. When I went to cover the 2007 presidential election in which Buhari ran on the All Nigerian People’s Party, ANPP, in 2007 and the late President Umaru Yar’ Adua of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, I had joined a teamthat went to Daura to visit Buhari for an interview. We also monitored the election in Jibia, which is a border town with Niger.I realised how easy it was for people from the two countries to cross the rickety border post manned by a man dressed virtually in rags. He only smiled when we decided to set foot on Niger Republic soil. Indeed, it may interest Nigerians to know that Daura Emirate stretches deep into Maradi and Zinder Departments in Niger Republic. During the 2015 election, there were reports of thousands of people from Niger Republic crossing the porous borders to vote in an election that was none of the business of their country. In the far North Nigerian electoral officials hardly ask questions about the eligibility ofvoters. That is why you see millions of under-aged voters voting, and at the end the polls are declared “free and fair”.Once Buhari achieved his life’s ambition ofmatching Olusegun Obasanjo’s feat as a former military ruler who became an elected President of Nigeria, his visit to Niger Republic became the first of the 22 foreign trips he made within 11 months before he was slowed down by ill-health. He was received by the President and people of Niger like a triumphant son backfrom the battlefield. Niger Republic President, Mahamadou Issoufou, gave hima white horse and a golden sword. In fact, Issoufou, in 2016, emblazoned Buhari’s photograph beside his own on vehicles during political campaigns.I went into all this to let you know that the planned new Nigerian railway network from Kano through Daura and Jibia to Maradi in Niger Republic is a selfish project that has nothing to do with other Nigerians like you and me. Even though a president’s oath of office indicates: “….thatI will not allow my personal interest to influence my official conducts or my official decisions…”.For me, if Buhari had merely sought to connect his hometown, Daura, and even Jibia to the new national railway network, Iwould not have minded it too much, though it violates the principle of economic viability and bankability, which the largely borrowed funds will emphasisein order that we repay the debts in good time. The same logic that led the British colonialists to pass the Eastern rail line through Eha Amufu in today’s Enugu State and terminate it at Nguru in today’s Yobe State and pass the Western line through Kaura Namoda in today’s Zamfara State can also be adduced to extend the new railnetwork through Daura to Jibia, even if a president did not hail from there. The offensive aspect is extending the railway 55 kilometres into a foreign land just because the President considers the region as part of his hometown.By the way, the proposed new rail addition from Kano through Kazaure, Daura and Jibia to Maradi covers a whopping distance of 806 kilometres, which is more than the distance from Lagos to Abuja (779km) and Lagos to Calabar (770km). It is important for Nigerians to know the scale of the rail line and the amount of borrowed and oil money we are going to dump on this aspect of the project just to gratify the personal whims of Buhari. It would be a different ball game if Nigeria and Niger Republic signed a memorandum of understanding to share the cost of the rail line, each country taking the financial responsibility to build the lines that run through their respective territorial jurisdictions. One thing Nigerians must never forget is that we are borrowing heavily from China, Europe and the Breton-Wood institutions to build our standard gauge railway network. Repayment for the loans which outlay is not available to me at this moment will span decades. Most of us willbe gone from the surface of the earth while the repayment will devolve to our children and possibly their children. This is why we must never keep silent when Buhari so brazenly violates the nation’s interests by throwing projects from these loans into unviable remote hamlets, including hamlets in a foreign country that happens to be a part of their hometown. Nobody, no matter how highly placed, should be allowed to take what belongs to all of us for himself and his kinsmen alone. Even if we must accommodate Daura and Jibia to make Buhari happy, the rail line must NEVER be extended an inch into a foreign soil.
