Yesterday, June 13, 2026, His Highness, in the company of Olori Salma Alimi and other distinguished personalities, graced the wedding reception of Abubakar Sadiq Hamza and Nana Fatima Garba, daughter of Alhaji Garba Alfulani, Otun Mayegun Yoruba Kano.

The reception was held at the Amani Events Center in Kano and was attended by family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the joyous union.

His Highness extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newlyweds and prayed for a blissful, prosperous, and enduring marital life filled with love, peace, and happiness.

Gombe Emir urges footballers to leverage competition for global advantages

The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Dr Abubakar Shehu Abubakar has described the competition for his trophy as a platform to discover talented players who would eventually calibrate their gains to seek for greener pastures globally.

Emir Abubakar dropped this hint during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Gombe Emir's Cup soccer competition tagged ‘King's Cup’ organized and sponsored by Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe, the Chief Executive Officer of Green White Green held at Pantami Stadium, Gombe.

The Emir who was represented by Wakilin Birnin Gombe, Alhaji Dalhatu Babayo said that the tournament was a serious platform for the players to showcase their skills and talents to the world.

He charged the participants in the competition across the state to exhibit sportsmanship and unity towards the success of the championship.

While expressing appreciation to Hon Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe for sponsoring the tournament among young footballers across the state, he called for more sporting events in order not only to keep the youth busy but to sustain peace and unity in the state.

Speaking, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation NFF, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau who was represented by an Executive member of the Federation, Mr
Timothy Heman Magaji described the Emir's Cup as a big tournament, pledging that the NFF will support the organisers towards the success of the championship.

Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau also expressed the Federation’s commitment and determination to continue to work with football stakeholders so as to develop the game across the country.

Earlier in his welcome address, the competition's sponsor Hon. Gara Gombe thanked the state government, the Gombe state emirate Council and all those who have contributed in one way or the other towards a colourful opening ceremony, calling for more support in the preliminaries and knock out stage.

Kano State Government Urges More Support for Orphans and Vulnerable Persons

The Kano State Government has called on labour unions and non-governmental organizations to intensify support for orphanages and people with special needs in order to improve their living conditions.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Amina Abdullahi HOD, made the call when the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) presented food items to an orphanage in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

The delegation also donated similar items to the Kurmawa Remand Home, where the head of the facility expressed appreciation for the support, particularly the medicines provided, noting that they arrived at a time when they were greatly needed.

Earlier, the JNC Public Relations Officer, Haladu Musa, who represented the council’s chairman, Hashim A. Sale, said the annual donation exercise is part of the council’s activities marking International Workers’ Day.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at supporting the less privileged while promoting compassion, solidarity, and a spirit of caring within society.

The JNC donated food items, medicines, and other essential materials worth over four million naira to the orphanage, the remand home, and the mental health care centre located in Dorayi, Kano.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Approves N20,000 Eid Goodwill Package for State and Local Government Civil Servants

The Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a special goodwill package of Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000) for civil servants across the state and all 44 local government areas as part of efforts to support workers ahead of the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The intervention, which comes shortly after the successful payment of May 2026 salaries, is targeted at civil servants on Grade Levels 01 to 14 in both state ministries and local government councils.

This compassionate and worker-friendly initiative reflects the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, dignity, and wellbeing of the hardworking men and women who form the backbone of the public service in Kano State.

In recognition of the prevailing economic realities and the financial demands often associated with festive periods, the Governor considered it necessary to provide additional relief to enable workers celebrate Eid with joy, comfort, and renewed hope alongside their families and loved ones.

The gesture further underscores the administration’s inclusive governance philosophy and its determination to ensure that no segment of the workforce is left behind in the government’s people-oriented policies and programmes.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s continued dedication to improving workers’ welfare, enhancing productivity, and sustaining a motivated public service capable of delivering quality service to the people of Kano State.

Today marked a significant step forward for the Yoruba Community in Kano as the inaugural reconciliation meeting was successfully held.

Convened at the instance of His Highness, Engr. (Dr.) Murtala Alimi Otisese, ADETIMIRIN I, Oba Yoruba Kano, the gathering reaffirmed a timeless truth: “Reconciliation is the bridge that transforms division into unity and restores the strength of peaceful coexistence.” The reconciliation committee, ably led by Alhaji Garba Muhammed Al-Fulani with Alhaji Bimbo Yusuf, Baapitan Yoruba Kano, serving as Secretary, demonstrated commendable dedication in steering this vital process.

The outcome of the meeting reflects a renewed hope for unity, as all aggrieved parties were duly represented and expressed their willingness to cooperate fully with the committee in restoring lasting peace. It is evident that there remains genuine room for reconciliation, mutual understanding, and the strengthening of harmonious relationships within the community.

We sincerely appreciate everyone who honored the invitation and contributed to the success of this important gathering. Four Sports Associations Honour Senator in Abuja

Four major sports associations have honoured a Senator in Abuja in recognition of his continuous contributions to youth and sports development, particularly in Kano State.
During the visit, the associations commended the Senator for his consistent support toward grassroots sports, describing his interventions as a major boost to the growth of football and other sporting activities.
They highlighted several contributions, including the provision of vehicles and financial assistance for registration fees to support clubs and sporting bodies. The groups also praised the Senator for renewing his sponsorship of 66 clubs participating in the Nationwide League One (NLO), a move they said has encouraged youth participation in competitive football.
Barau FC also received special commendation during the engagement, as sports stakeholders noted its growing impact and visibility within the football community.
In addition, the associations expressed satisfaction with the standard of sports facilities and centres in Kano, noting that 13 sports centres have continued to positively impact club activities and development.
However, they appealed for more support to be extended to other sporting disciplines beyond football, to ensure balanced development across all sports.
In his response, the Senator reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, promising continued support for initiatives that promote talent discovery and community engagement through sports.
