Allegations of Corruption Trail Mr. Goodluck Iheanacho’s Administration in Ahoada East LGA
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – June 24, 2025
Mr. Goodluck Iheanacho, the current Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area (LGA), is facing a barrage of corruption allegations barely two months into office, with critics accusing him of large-scale financial impropriety and abuse of office.
In a document circulated by concerned youths and local watchdog groups, Mr. Iheanacho is accused of allegedly embezzling ₦7.5 million under the guise of vehicle maintenance, despite the purported absence of any government-owned vehicles in the LGA.
Additionally, he is alleged to have illegally used the name of Mr. Hector Ekeakita to retire ₦4.45 million in questionable expenditures.
One of the most controversial claims involves an alleged inflation of the LGA’s monthly security vote—from ₦15 million to a staggering ₦60 million.
According to the same document, the approved salary bill for April 2025 was ₦292,969,453.83. However, it is alleged that Mr. Iheanacho criminally inflated this amount to ₦392,969,453.83, diverting ₦100 million to a personal account. This alleged misappropriation is said to be verifiable from the minutes of the May Finance and General Purpose Committee (F&GPC) meeting.
Similarly, it is alleged that the salary bill for political appointees was fraudulently increased from ₦50 million to ₦86 million, with ₦36 million reportedly diverted to a private account.
Further allegations claim that Mr. Iheanacho has acquired 10 plots of land in Ula-Upata town and 6 plots in Rumuagholu town, despite the ongoing lack of youth empowerment programs or skills acquisition initiatives in the LGA.
He is also alleged to have purchased two luxury vehicles: a Toyota Highlander SUV valued at ₦48.8 million with Lagos registration number APP 351, and a Toyota RAV4 SUV worth ₦14.8 million with Lagos registration number APP 350.
The accusations have provoked outrage among local youths, who allege that Mr. Iheanacho’s conduct reflects “brazen corruption and administrative ineptitude.” Tensions reportedly escalated into an altercation between Mr. Iheanacho and protesting youths, who are now calling for his immediate removal in order to preserve what they describe as the “fragile peace” in Ahoada East.
As of press time, Mr. Iheanacho has not publicly responded to the allegations. Efforts to reach his office for comments have so far been unsuccessful.
