INEC DECLARES PRIMARY ELECTIONS CONDUCTED AFTER MAY 30 DEADLINE NULL AND VOID

The Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC), has warned political parties that any primary elections conducted after its May 30 deadline will be considered invalid, pending the outcome of ongoing court appeals.

INEC National Commissioner, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the commission will continue to operate under the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 while the matter is being determined at the Court of Appeal.

He advised political parties to strictly comply with existing electoral guidelines to avoid disqualification risks.

The warning comes amid conflicting court rulings involving Justice Mohammed Umar and Justice James Omotosho, which have raised legal debates over INEC’s powers to set election timetables.

Has insecurity/abduction been normalized in Nigeria?

Here is a statement from the presidential candidate of the Nigeria democratic congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi on the rising insecurity and abduction in Nigeria.

The abduction of the Chibok girls in 2014 triggered a global movement. One school abduction was enough to unite Nigerians, attract international attention, and place enormous pressure on the government through the campaign.

Yet, what has happened since then should trouble every Nigerian.

Under President Buhari's eight years in office, Nigeria witnessed about ten school abductions. Under President Tinubu's administration, in just three years, we have already recorded over ten school abductions.

Despite these repeated tragedies, there has been neither sustained national outrage nor significant international attention comparable to what followed Chibok.

This raises an important question: have we become so accustomed to insecurity that what once shocked our national conscience is now treated as normal?

At a time when millions of Nigerians are grappling with insecurity, poverty, and hardship, it is deeply troubling that those in power appear more focused on political calculations and preparations for the next election than on addressing the urgent challenges confronting our people.

It is, therefore, no surprise that some observers have labelled us a "Now Disgraced Nation". While we do not agree with any attempt to define our great country by its present difficulties, we must acknowledge that persistent insecurity, economic hardship, and leadership failure have damaged our reputation and standing among nations.

The answer is not denial, propaganda, or political distraction. The answer is leadership that is competent, compassionate, accountable, and genuinely committed to the welfare and security of the Nigerian people.

The Nigerian youth must not become indifferent. We must all refuse to normalise failure.

Can Nigerians still Trust INEC for Free and Fair Elections in 2027

The recent unauthorised release of voter information of a Nollywood actor Emeka Ike from the database of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has exposed a serious weakness in the management of one of the country's most sensitive national assets.

Beyond the controversy surrounding the individuals involved, Lere Olayinka, INEC officer, the incident raises serious troubling questions about data security, institutional accountability and public trust in the electoral process.

This calls for serious questions on INEC neutrality, non partisanship as 2027 general elections are drawing near. Every Nigerian should stand up and demand for the unbiased investigation and prosecutions of those found wanton in this matter.

Nigeria is a country guided by laws and extant laws, and not banana republic. Lere Olayinka should be prosecuted and seen by everybody to have faced the full weight of the law inorder to set example for others who may think going through the same way

While on his tour he continues to react over the high rate of insecurity in Nigeria.
