COLOMBIA HIT BY 7.4 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, Aug 10 at 7:34am local time.

What we know so far:
- Death toll: At least 164 people confirmed dead as of Tuesday morning, with the number expected to rise
- Epicenter: Near San José del Palmar in Chocó department, about 240km west of Bogotá
- Hardest hit: Cali - 85 dead, 800+ injured. Pereira - 66 dead. Buildings collapsed in Cali, Pereira, and Manizales
- Impact: Hospitals damaged, airports closed, and tremors felt in Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela. Called Colombia's strongest earthquake of the 21st century
- Response: National state of emergency declared. Rescue teams digging through rubble with bare hands and excavators.

President Abelardo De La Espriella said "you are not alone".
