Ogun Police Arrest Two Over Firearm Possession in Ifo

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two men in connection with unlawful possession of a firearm during an intelligence-led operation in Ifo.

According to police sources, detectives attached to the Ifo Division stormed a suspected criminal hideout along Ibogun Road, NITEL Area, at about 6:30 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2026. The operation led to the arrest of 47-year-old Adeola Mathew and the recovery of a locally made pistol concealed within the premises.

Investigators later linked the weapon to 48-year-old Rasheed Omoniyi, who was subsequently tracked and arrested. Police say the firearm has been secured as evidence while further investigations are underway to determine its origin and whether the suspects are connected to other criminal activities.

The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the swift action of the operatives and reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and safeguarding residents across Ogun State. Olota Commissions Modern Police Headquarters, 40-Bed Health Centre in Ota

The Olota of Ota, His Royal Majesty Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege, has officially commissioned two major developmental projects aimed at improving security and healthcare delivery across Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.

The newly commissioned projects include a modern Police Divisional Headquarters and a fully equipped 40-bed Primary Health Centre facilitated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The state-of-the-art police facility is expected to strengthen security operations and improve law enforcement response across the Ota axis, while the new health centre will provide residents with better access to quality and affordable healthcare services.

Speaking during the commissioning, stakeholders described the projects as landmark achievements that will leave lasting impacts on the lives of residents and future generations.

Traffic Incident Report – Ota-Idiroko Road

At approximately 09:56 hrs on May 8, 2026, a mini Mercedes tanker truck carrying diesel (white) lost control and overturned along Chelsea axis of the Ota-Idiroko road.

The incident has led to partial traffic disruption in the area.

OGUN POLICE FOIL TRUCK HIJACKING, RECOVER VEHICLE AND WOODEN-FABRICATED RIFLE WRAPPED WITH BLACK TAPE IN IJEBU IMUSHIN

Detectives of the Ijebu Imushin Division, Ogun State Police Command, have foiled a truck hijacking incident and successfully recovered a stolen DAF truck as well as a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape.

The incident was reported in the early hours of Wednesday, 6th May 2026, following a distress call by a driver who was accosted while conveying motor spare parts.

Preliminary findings revealed that the driver was intercepted by suspected hoodlums at the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, where the truck was forcefully taken from him.

Upon receipt of the report, detectives, in collaboration with highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilized to the scene, forcing the suspects to abandon the truck and flee under pressure.

The prompt intervention of the police effectively thwarted the criminal operation and prevented the loss of property.

The driver, who sustained minor injury to his right ankle during the incident, was promptly administered first aid treatment.

A thorough search of the recovered truck led to the discovery of a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape, used by the suspects in the operation.

Operatives are actively tracking the fleeing suspects with a view to their swift arrest and prosecution.
