The African Foundation for Environment and Development (AFED), with funding support from CIVICUS, has trained 49 women, youths and community leaders across Ado-Odo/Ota LGA on environmental justice, citizens’ rights, participatory governance and advocacy.

The initiative, implemented under AFED’s Community Environmental Justice and Civic Action Labs, also led to the formation of 10 Citizen Groups to promote community engagement, monitor public services and advocate for local development.

AFED says the trained community champions will continue working with residents and government to turn community concerns into practical development solutions.

OGWAMA, EHO ARREST WOMAN OVER VIRAL VIDEO OF WASTE DUMPING IN SAGAMU

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), in collaboration with Environmental Health Officers (EHO) of Sagamu Local Government, has apprehended a woman seen in a viral video allegedly dumping waste into a drainage channel in Sagamu.

The woman was arrested following the circulation of the video, which showed her disposing of waste in a drainage channel last Friday.

The development comes as authorities continue efforts to discourage indiscriminate waste disposal and promote proper waste management across communities in Ogun State.

Residents have been urged to dispose of their waste through OGWAMA-accredited Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators and avoid dumping refuse in drainage channels, roadsides and other unauthorised locations.

Authorities also reminded residents that keeping the environment clean is a shared responsibility and called on members of the public to support efforts toward maintaining a cleaner and healthier Ogun State.

Ota Gossip will provide further updates if more details about the arrest or any action taken against the woman are made available.
