Gabriel Sunano Foundation Trains 20 Sapele Youths in Skills Acquisition, Gives Cash Support

The Gabriel Sunano Foundation has commenced a skill acquisition programme for Youths in Sapele Technical College (STC), Delta State, training 20 beneficiaries in catering as well as fashion and design, while also providing cash empowerment support to participants.
The initiative, which has attracted commendation from residents of Sapele, is aimed at equipping young people with practical vocational skills capable of promoting self-reliance and economic empowerment.
Speaking during the programme, Mr. Emmanuel Anthony, Manager of the Gabriel Sunano Foundation who represented the founder, Mr. Gabriel Sunano, said the foundation remains committed to supporting people at the grassroots through empowerment initiatives and humanitarian interventions.
According to him, Gabriel Sunano has consistently demonstrated passion for helping the needy, the aged, and vulnerable persons across different communities through financial support and empowerment programmes. He explained that the latest intervention focuses on skills acquisition for youths, with 20 students currently undergoing training in catering and fashion and design.
Anthony noted that, in addition to the free training, the foundation also distributed cash support to trainees to ease their learning process and encourage them to remain committed to acquiring the skills. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the participants, describing them as fast learners, while assuring that the foundation plans to expand the initiative to other departments of the institution in the near future.
Also speaking, the Head of Fashion and Design department Mr. Eruteyan Kenneth, commended the Chief Executive Officer of the Gabriel Sunano Foundation for what he described as a laudable and impactful initiative. He said the foundation had already built a reputation for community-focused projects across Sapele before introducing the current programme at the college.
Kenneth disclosed that the training commenced last month and has already started making visible impact on the students, adding that the beneficiaries are learning the complete scope of fashion and design beyond basic sewing. He appealed for the programme to be extended to other technical departments such as fabrication, carpentry, and electrical installation, while urging other foundations and well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture in order to support youths and communities.
One of the beneficiaries, Esada Erhumu, described the programme as a life-changing opportunity, noting that many young people are willing to learn vocational skills but are limited by financial challenges. He thanked Gabriel Sunano for providing free access to training and empowerment support, adding that the platform would help beneficiaries acquire knowledge capable of empowering others in the future.
Another trainee from the Department of Fashion and Design, Miss Fumilayo, expressed appreciation to the foundation, saying many students had long desired such an opportunity but could not afford the financial requirements. She described the free training as a major relief and prayed for greater success for the foundation.
Similarly, Miss Mercy Eddie from the Catering Department said the programme had positively impacted the lives of participants, revealing that some trainees can now independently prepare snacks and catering practicals such as chinchin, egg rolls, and other products through the knowledge acquired during the training.
The beneficiaries unanimously praised the initiative, describing it as timely and transformative, while calling for its continuation and expansion to benefit more youths across Delta State.
