The tutorial programme, coordinated by the Education Committee of MSSN UDUS, will run from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturdays through Thursdays.

The initiative is aimed at providing structured academic support for new students and enhancing their understanding of foundational courses.
Courses to be covered cut across all faculties and include CHEM 101, PHY 101, GST 101, and ACT 101, among others. The sessions have been distributed across the designated lecture halls to ensure effective organisation and adequate learning space.

In a written announcement, the Secretary-General of MSSN UDUS, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulhakeem, a final-year Law student, explained that the tutorials are designed to ease the academic transition of newly admitted students and support their academic success. He encouraged fresh students to fully utilise the programme, noting that it will run throughout the semester.

To ensure smooth implementation, the Society has also issued an internal memorandum calling on interested members of its General Executive Council and other qualified volunteers to support the programme by teaching or assisting during the tutorial sessions. Interested volunteers are expected to contact the Head of the Education Committee to indicate their availability and preferred courses, as the tutorial timetable has already been drawn up.

Meanwhile, the Society has appealed to members of the university community for cooperation and understanding over the use of the specified lecture venues during the stated periods. It emphasized that the tutorials are conducted with official approval and in line with MSSN’s commitment to academic development and the maintenance of a peaceful campus environment.

Midweek Reflections with Sofiyah

By now, the semester is moving. Lectures are ongoing, course outlines are clearer, and our responsibility as students is no longer abstract, we’re meant to show up, study, and put in the work. Still, even with that understanding, keeping the same energy we had in the first week isn’t always easy.

At this point, the excitement of starting fresh has faded. Lectures feel normal again, routines feel repetitive, and motivation comes and goes. Some days, it takes more effort to show up with the same drive, even though the work still needs to be done.

This is exactly where consistency matters more than motivation.

Consistency isn’t about doing a lot at once or waiting until we feel inspired. It’s about the small things we return to daily. Attending lectures even when we feel drained. Opening, reading, and revising our notes, handouts, and lecture materials regularly, instead of waiting for the “perfect” study mood. Making duʿāʾ before we begin, even if it’s brief.

In Islam, these repeated efforts carry great reward. The Prophet ﷺ taught that the deeds most loved by Allah are those done consistently, even if they are small. That means our everyday effort, done sincerely, carries barakah far beyond what we see.

So this week, rather than waiting to feel motivated, let consistency guide us. A few pages studied regularly, a short review after class, a simple duʿāʾ before we begin, all of these add up, and Allah places barakah in steady effort over time.

Consistency is choosing to keep going and honouring our responsibility, even when it feels tiring. And Allah never ignores sincere effort made for His sake.

May Allah accept our efforts, strengthen our consistency, and place barakah in everything we do.
Aamin.

Midweek Reflections with Sofiyah.

Around this point in the semester, it’s easy to feel like we’re behind. Our to-do list keeps growing, our energy feels limited, and we start comparing ourselves with others who seem to understand faster or cope better. Slowly, that thought creeps in: “Am I even doing enough?”

But in moments like this, Allah reminds us to pause and be grateful.

Allah says in the Qur’an:
“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you (in favour).” (Qur’an 14:7)

Gratitude isn’t denying that things are hard. It’s recognising what Allah has already helped us through. It’s realising that the fact we’re still here, still attending lectures, still trying to understand, that alone is a blessing.

Gratitude is thanking Allah when you finally understand a concept after struggling with it.
Gratitude is saying Alhamdulillah when you manage to attend a lecture you almost skipped.
Gratitude is acknowledging the strength Allah gives you to keep going, even when you feel tired or unsure.

The Prophet ﷺ reminded us that Allah is pleased with His servant who eats a meal and thanks Him for it, or drinks something and thanks Him for it.
If gratitude matters in the small things, then it certainly matters in our studies, our effort, and our struggles.

Showing gratitude doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as: saying Alhamdulillah when you understand something new, making a short duʿāʾ after studying, using what you learn in a way that benefits others, continuing to strive even when it feels slow.

When we thank Allah for the little wins, our hearts soften, the pressure eases, we stop measuring ourselves only by speed and start recognising consistency.

So this week, be gentle with yourself. Thank Allah for where you are, not just where you wish to be. You may feel behind, but you are still moving and every sincere effort is seen by Allah.

Gratitude turns “I’m not doing enough” into “Allah has helped me come this far.”
And that is more than enough to keep going.

Fee Amanillah.
