ROYAL PRAISE CHOIR OF CRC-N NO 1 JALINGO HONOURS CRC-N PRESIDENT WITH AWARD

By Ordinary Useni Garba

The Royal Praise Choir of CRC-N No. 1 Jalingo has honoured the President of the Church Rev. Dr. Isaiah Jirapye Magaji, with a special award in recognition of his outstanding service and contributions to the church choir.

The award presentation took place during the choir’s special celebration service this Sunday.

Presenting the award, leaders of the Royal Praise Choir said the honour was aimed at appreciating Rev. Dr. Isaiah Magaji for his dedicated service during his time as Pastor-in-Charge of the church and for the remarkable impact he made in the growth and development of the choir.

They described the CRC-N President as a committed servant of God whose leadership, encouragement, and support contributed immensely to strengthening the choir ministry and uplifting members spiritually.

The choir members noted that his passion for worship and dedication to the work of God continued to inspire many believers within and outside the congregation.

Responding after receiving the award, Rev. Dr. Isaiah Magaji Jirapye expressed gratitude to the Royal Praise Choir for the recognition and appreciated the members for their commitment to the service of God through music ministry.

He encouraged the choir to remain steadfast in their calling and continue using their talents to promote unity, worship, and the message of Christ.

The event attracted the Governor of Taraba state Dr Agbu kefas, church members, invited guests, and worshippers who celebrated with the choir during the special occasion.

Bill Huizenga is a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives who has served in Congress since 2011, representing districts across southwest Michigan. Over the years, he has become one of the most outspoken American lawmakers advocating for greater international attention to insecurity, religious violence, and the persecution of Christians and other vulnerable communities in Nigeria.

Congressman Huizenga has consistently used his platform in Congress to urge the United States government to take a stronger position on religious freedom violations and mass killings in Nigeria. His advocacy has focused on encouraging the Nigerian government to improve security, protect vulnerable communities, and ensure accountability for those responsible for violence.

Importantly, Huizenga’s concern has not been limited to Christians alone. He has repeatedly condemned all forms of violence against innocent Nigerians, including both Christians and Muslims, emphasizing that every human life has value and that governments have a responsibility to protect all citizens regardless of faith or ethnicity.

He has publicly denounced attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria and supported policies aimed at advancing religious freedom, human rights, and peacebuilding efforts. One of his most notable contributions has been his support for redesignating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) under U.S. religious freedom laws. He has also backed congressional measures urging stronger diplomatic engagement and targeted sanctions against individuals and groups responsible for violence against civilians.

Huizenga has been critical of what he views as insufficient action by Nigerian authorities in addressing insecurity and protecting affected communities. He has argued that the government must do more to stop attacks, prosecute offenders, and restore confidence among citizens living under constant threat. His statements and advocacy have resonated strongly within American conservative, evangelical, and human rights circles, helping to elevate international awareness of the crisis in Nigeria.

Beyond legislative advocacy, Congressman Huizenga has participated in fact-finding visits and congressional engagements related to Nigeria. As part of a U.S. congressional delegation, he met with senior government officials, including the Minister of Defence, as well as religious leaders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders. During these engagements, he emphasized the importance of honest dialogue, improved security measures, and accountability in addressing violence and religious persecution.

His impact can be seen in several key areas:

• Encouraging stronger diplomatic pressure from the United States on issues of religious freedom and insecurity in Nigeria.

• Supporting the redesignation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and advocating for policy responses aimed at protecting vulnerable communities.

• Drawing greater international attention to violence, humanitarian concerns, and religious persecution through congressional hearings, public statements, and media engagements.

While many supporters view Huizenga as a strong defender of persecuted Christians, others note that the Nigerian crisis is complex and influenced by multiple factors, including terrorism, banditry, ethnic tensions, land disputes, and economic challenges. Nevertheless, Huizenga has consistently maintained that the religious dimension of the violence must not be ignored and that governments must uphold the fundamental rights and safety of all citizens.

The Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria deeply appreciates Congressman Huizenga’s very public support for the church and for vulnerable communities in Nigeria. As a brother from their sister church, the Christian Reformed Church in North America, he represents in Congress many communities and families whose churches, missionaries, and members helped build and sustain the Christian Reformed Church in Nigeria over the past century. His advocacy is therefore seen not only as a political position, but also as an expression of longstanding spiritual, historical, and human ties between the churches in North America and Nigeria.

Congressman Bill Huizenga can rightly be described as a lover of humanity, a defender of justice, a servant leader, a facilitator of international understanding, and a committed advocate for peace and religious freedom in Nigeria and around the world.
