Release Nnamdi Kanu And All IPOB Detainees Before 2027 Election~ Ohanaeze Youth Council Urge Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The Apex sociocultural Youth organization of Igbo Race Worldwide Ohanaeze Youth Council-Oyc Worldwide, under the leadership of Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka , has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately commence a political solution to the case between the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and the Federal Government.
In a press briefing in Enugu on Sunday 6th September 2026, OYC President Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka noted that the illegal abduction, detention, and prolonged incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu have remained a major source of grievance.
The Council urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to demonstrate statesmanship by adopting dialogue and a political approach to resolve the matter in the interest of peace and stability in the South-East and Nigeria at large.
Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka recalled that the circumstances surrounding the abduction of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his subsequent five-years incarceration by the Department of State Services (DSS) under the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari were viewed by the new Igbo generation of Igbo extraction as an unforgivable act.
He stated that the incident created deep resentment and a lasting sense of enmity toward the late President among Igbo youths.
It will go down in annals of history that the late President Muhammadu Buhari left office with deep-seated enmity from Ndigbo over the abduction and incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must avoid repeating such tribal grievances against the Igbo by releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all IPOB detainees currently languishing in various police cells and Nigerian prisons," Comrade Igboayaka stated.
Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, called on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government to end what it described as the double standard of pampering negotiations with terrorists and kidnappers, while simultaneously pursuing lingering terrorism charges against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a self-determination leader, seeking for only referendum in Nigeria.
One of the greatest pathways to national healing and reconciliation amid the current political climate, according to the Ohanaeze Youth Council Boss Comrade Igboayaka, is for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to adopt a political solution by releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all pro-Biafra detainees before the next general election, Comrade Igboayaka Stated.
"It is obvious that Southeast political leaders like Senator David Nweze Umahi, Prof. Charles Soludo, Dr. Peter Mbah, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, and Senator Hope Uzodimma, who are promising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu votes, are jokers of this generation. They lack the capacity, influence and acceptability to move the electorate or Ndigbo to vote for him.
The only thing that can make Ndigbo consider voting for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 is the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all pro-Biafrans in detention,” Comrade Igboayaka revealed.
