JUST IN: The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has thrown its support behind the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), declaring that any attack on Catholic bishops is an attack on the entire Christian community.
PFN National President, Bishop Wale Oke, backed recent remarks by Cardinal John Onaiyekan that “Nigeria is bleeding,” citing insecurity and violence in several parts of the country.
“Are we not bleeding in Benue, Southern Kaduna, Borno, Kwara and Oyo?” Oke asked, insisting that speaking truth to power is a moral responsibility and not a political act.
The PFN leader also criticised proposals linked to fines for bus preaching under amendments to road safety regulations, saying Christians would continue to preach the gospel and urging lawmakers to focus on issues affecting citizens.
The comments come amid growing debate over the CBCN’s assessment of the nation’s challenges and the Presidency’s response to the bishops’ remarks.
While some commentators defended the bishops’ right to speak on national issues, others argued that religious leaders should avoid actions that could be perceived as partisan. The discussion has continued to generate reactions from faith leaders, public figures and political stakeholders across the country.
