Africa's "Modern" Constructions Are Climate Disasters

Africa needs buildings that make sense for Africa.

Too many of our cities are filled with glass, concrete, and steel structures that trap heat, block airflow, and force people to depend on expensive air conditioning just to survive indoors. That is the opposite of "development." It is actually spectacularly poor planning.

Our ancestors understood climate before it became a conference topic. They built with the land, used local materials, created shade, allowed air to move, and designed homes that worked with the environment.

Unfortunately, we keep copying people who never designed for our climate in the first place. Construction in Africa needs to be decolonized, and that must start with a mindset change and re-education.

Do you realize how much raw mineral resources a developed country like the USA needs to function effectively? Now imagine if they had to buy all of them at full market value, it would be extremely expensive. That creates incentives to source from unstable countries where resources are sold for dirt cheap because the economies are weak and they can’t fully utilize them yet. Plus their currency value is so low that it’s literally like getting it for free. Now do you think it is in their best interest to bring peace to these countries?

Zimbabwe is returning several foreign-owned farms seized over 25 years ago and compensating with $146 million.

The transfer affects 67 properties linked to owners from Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and former Yugoslavia.

Both Black-owned (840) and White-owned (about 400) farms are being returned by the government.

The land reforms began with the forced takeover of White-owned farmland post-independence to address historical imbalances.
