Nobody really tells you that writing isn’t just about having talent or beautiful words stored up in yoir brain. It’s about understanding how to position your voice in a world full of writers.
When I started writing online in 2020, I had no idea what I was doing. I was just a young woman who loved expressing herself through words writing about life, pain, purpose, and growth.
I remember nights when I would write long heartfelt posts on Facebook, hoping someone would notice.
Sometimes, my posts got only two likes and one was from my cousin. 😅 There were days I wondered if writing was even worth it.
But deep down, I couldn’t stop. Writing became my therapy. My voice. My way of healing.
What nobody told me was that writing alone isn’t enough, if you want to grow, impact lives, and earn from your words, you need to:
1️⃣ Learn to Position Your Voice.
It’s not about writing what you want to say it’s about writing what your audience needs to hear. Once I realized that, everything changed.
I started creating content that solved problems, answered questions, and connected with emotions.

2️⃣ Build Credibility Through Consistency.
People won’t trust your words until they see you show up repeatedly. I stayed consistent even when I didn’t get engagement. And that consistency built trust not overnight, but steadily.

3️⃣ Learn the Business Side of Writing.
This was where my biggest transformation came. When I understood that writing could go beyond passion that it could become a career I stopped writing for fun and started writing for purpose. I began offering writing, editing, and content services. That was how I made my first 50k from writing in 2022.

4️⃣ Network and Collaborate.
Your writing can only go so far in isolation.
The moment I started connecting with other writers, editors, and creatives, new doors opened. Referrals came in. Clients started reaching out. Opportunities found me.

5️⃣ Keep Learning. Always.
The writing world evolves daily from AI tools to new content platforms. What keeps you relevant isn’t talent, it’s growth. And to every young writer reading this: Never think you’ve “arrived.” Keep learning, keep refining, keep stretching.

Writing has given me everything I once prayed for visibility, income, influence, and a voice that speaks beyond my immediate circle.
But it all began the day I decided to stop seeing writing as just a hobby and start treating it as a skill that can change lives including mine.
So, here’s what nobody tells you about writing:

👉 It’s not about virality.
👉 It’s about showing up, learning, serving, and growing until your words start opening doors for you.
