Abia Govt Clarifies Otti’s Comment on Electoral Integrity

The Abia State Government has clarified that Governor Alex Otti’s recent comment on future elections was not a threat but a firm stand for electoral integrity and the rule of law.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the government said the Governor’s remark that those planning to “write election results” should “first write their wills” was a figurative expression against electoral malpractice.

Kanu explained that the statement aligns with the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act, 2022, which criminalize result falsification and guarantee that sovereignty belongs to the people.

He described Governor Otti as a man of peace committed to due process, noting that no one has been unlawfully detained since he assumed office.

The government urged the public and political stakeholders to interpret the Governor’s remarks within their proper constitutional context, reaffirming Abia’s commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections.

Abia Doesn’t Belong to One Man – Group Tells Gov. Otti, Security Agencies

The Abia Renaissance Group (ARG) has cautioned Governor Alex Otti against making statements or taking actions that could escalate political tensions in the state.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Kelechi Uwakwe, and Secretary, Emma Nwangwu, the group expressed concern over the increasing use of inflammatory language in the political space. It warned that such rhetoric, if unchecked, could deepen divisions and create fear among citizens.

As Abia prepares for another critical political season, the group called on all political actors — including Governor Otti — to exercise restraint and promote peace, tolerance, and respect for diverse opinions.

“Abia has built a reputation for peace and political tolerance,” the statement read. “All leaders must protect this legacy by ensuring their words and actions unite rather than divide.”
