ABIA SETS UP STATE LIAISON COMMITTEE AHEAD OF 2ND NIGER DELTA GAMES

Abia State has taken a decisive step in its preparations for the 2nd Niger Delta Games following the inauguration of State Liaison Committees at a high-level coordination meeting held in Port Harcourt.

The Honourable Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, represented Abia State at the meeting which brought together sports leadership from across the Niger Delta region. Each state formally constituted its Liaison Committee tasked with driving the buildup to the Games and aligning with the directives of the Project Consultant.

The Abia delegation comprising the Commissioner as Chairman, Onyebuchi Chukwu as Secretary, George Obioma, Director of Sports, and Kingsley Chijioke Okwum was officially briefed on the responsibilities ahead.

During the session, the committees were mandated to oversee the full cycle of athlete preparation in their respective states. This includes organising preliminary trials from the grassroots level, supervising final athlete selection, and ensuring proper online registration of all participants via the DRM portal. Delegates were also assigned the duty of coordinating publicity, enforcing strict compliance with technical guidelines, and overseeing the camping and training of contingents ahead of the tournament.

Transportation logistics for each state’s athletes both to and from the Games were also placed under the purview of the committees alongside the critical task of ensuring the effective and accountable application of funds in line with consultant directives.

States were further informed that, beyond the approved number of athletes and coaches, twelve additional support officials may accompany each delegation. These may include medical personnel, secretaries, and other essential staff relevant to the contingent’s operations.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from all Niger Delta representatives to deliver a successful Games marked by professionalism, fairness, and regional solidarity.

AbiaSports TV will continue to follow Team Abia’s preparations as the countdown to the Games begins.

New Generation Stun Dreamland to Claim 2025 Dreamland-Abia State U19 Cup Title

New Generation Football Club were crowned champions of the 2025 Dreamland-Abia State U19 Cup after edging hosts Dreamland FC 1–0 in a tightly contested final at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

The decisive moment came from Austin Harrison, whose stunning 30-yard strike in the early stages of the first half sealed the victory. Harrison, who was later named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, led New Generation with confidence throughout the competition. New Generation had reached the semifinals as the best losers, finishing the group stage with five points from one win and two draws before advancing to the knockout stage.

Dreamland’s Victor Cletus was awarded the Golden Glove after an impressive tournament between the posts, while teammate Okechukwu Kalu finished as the top scorer with four goals and one assist.

During the trophy presentation, the Honourable Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, represented by the Director of Sports, Comrade Obioma George, praised the organisers for partnering with the state to create meaningful opportunities for Abia youths to showcase their talents. Dreamland and New Generation Advance to Dreamland–Abia State U19 Cup Final

Dreamland Football Academy will face New Generation in the final of the 2025 Dreamland–Abia State U19 Cup after both sides secured impressive victories in their semi-final matches at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

Dreamland were first to book their place in the final after a dramatic penalty shootout win over Enyimba U19. They opened the scoring in the first half, before Enyimba found an equaliser to force the match into penalties after a 1–1 draw in regulation time.

The shootout belonged entirely to Dreamland’s goalkeeper, who saved three of Enyimba’s four attempts. The third effort crashed against the woodwork, leaving Enyimba without a single converted kick. Dreamland scored twice to seal a 2–0 victory on penalties.

In the second semi-final, New Generation overturned a challenging start to defeat Uchecharia 4–2. Uchecharia, who had gone through the group stage without conceding, struck first and appeared set to extend their unbeaten run.
But the second half transformed the contest. A quick-fire double from New Generation flipped the momentum sharply, and a third goal soon followed as their attack took full control of the match. Uchecharia pulled one back to make it 3–2, raising hopes of a comeback, but New Generation responded with a fourth goal that ended the contest decisively.

Dreamland and New Generation will now meet in the final, setting up an intriguing clash between a disciplined, defensively solid host side and one of the most dynamic attacking teams in the competition.

Dreams on the Rise as 12 Teams Clash in Aba for the 2025 Dreamland Abia State U19 Cup

Twelve teams from across Nigeria have converged on Aba, each chasing the same dream: glory, recognition and a chance to be discovered, as the 2025 Dreamland Abia State U19 Cup kicked off at the iconic Enyimba Stadium. Organized by Dreamland Football Academy in collaboration with the Abia State Government, the recruitment-focused youth championship runs from December 2nd to 6th, providing a platform for young footballers to showcase their potential before international scouts.

This year’s edition features two renowned recruitment experts: French nationals Dieng Mane Wally, Chief Scout for Africa at Atletico de Madrid and owner of Football Scouts Events Agency in Málaga, and Albaric Romain Frederic Sena, a scout for FC Sion and FC PAU, owner of Elite Football Management in France and a member of the CAF U20 AFCON Technical Study Group. Their presence underscores the tournament’s growing reputation as a credible gateway to global football opportunities.

Day 1 set an early tempo, delivering six matches across Groups A to C. Dreamland defeated More Grace 3–0, Smiler fell 0–1 to Enyimba U19, Uchecaria edged Ibro International 1–0, Ona Pal and Behold FC settled for a 1–1 draw, BG Sports FC also ended 1–1, while Jazzy Stars FC recorded a commanding 3–0 win over Aba Madrid. For many of the teenagers on the pitch, these opening encounters were more than games. They were auditions for futures they have long imagined.

Beyond competition, the tournament reflects a deliberate effort to deepen youth development and boost sports tourism in the state. Tournament Director Ndudi Edede highlighted the strategic decision to rebrand the championship with the approval of the Embassy of Hungary, aiming to expand opportunities and enhance marketing value. He also expressed appreciation to Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Nwadinma Ananaba, for their unwavering support.

The participating teams, drawn from Abia, Edo, Plateau, Lagos and Abuja, embody the diversity and talent within Nigeria’s football landscape. Abia State, famed for producing global stars such as Kanu Nwankwo, Uche Okechukwu, Mike Emenalo, Kenneth Omeruo and Samuel Chukwueze, hopes this edition will uncover the next generation of players to carry that legacy.

As the tournament unfolds, one truth remains constant. Inside Enyimba Stadium, the Dreamland Abia State U19 Cup is more than a sporting event. It is a gateway where talent meets destiny, and where Nigeria’s next football icons may be taking their very first steps.
