In December 2003, Joyce Vincent passed away in her North London apartment, likely due to an asthma attack. Her television remained switched on, and her rent continued to be paid via automatic bank transfers.
Mail piled up at her door, unnoticed.
Weeks turned into months, and still no one questioned her absence. The persistent odor in the hallway was dismissed, attributed to nearby trash bins. The noise from her television blended into the everyday din of children and teenagers in the building.
Eventually, Joyce's bank funds were depleted. Her landlord began sending payment demands, which went unanswered.
With more than six months of unpaid rent, a court order was issued for eviction. When bailiffs forced entry in January 2006, they discovered her remains.
Joyce Vincent had been dead for over two years.
