Urgent Call on the Federal Government to Address Rising Costs of Fertilizer and Agricultural Chemicals
We are calling on the attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently look into the rising prices of fertilizer and agricultural chemicals, which have become a serious burden on farmers across the country.
The cost of essential farming inputs—such as fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides—has increased significantly in recent times. Unfortunately, most farmers, especially those in rural communities, can no longer afford these critical materials, making it difficult for them to cultivate their farmlands effectively.
This situation threatens the productivity of the agricultural sector, the livelihood of millions of farmers, and the food security of the nation as a whole.
We are therefore appealing to the Federal Government to:
1. Subsidize the prices of fertilizer and farm chemicals to make them affordable for smallholder farmers.
2. Ensure availability and timely distribution of these inputs during the planting season.
3. Support farmers with incentives and grants to encourage sustainable food production.
Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy, and supporting our farmers means supporting the future of Nigeria.
