A Story Inspired by Sūrat Yūnus (10:26):
“لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا الْحُسْنَىٰ وَزِيَادَةٌ”
“For those who do good is the best reward – and even more.”
In the heart of Ilorin, decades ago, a man of vision and devotion stood at the crossroads of two worlds — the traditional Islamic scholarship and the rapidly emerging influence of Western education. Shaykh Muhammad Kamalud-deen HabeebuLlahi Musa Al-Adabiy, a luminary in his time, refused to see these two worlds as enemies. Instead, with wisdom, foresight, and relentless effort, he married the two into a harmonious educational model that honored the Qur’an and Sunnah while embracing the tools of modern knowledge.
He faced criticism, he faced doubt, but he pressed on. He founded schools. He wrote books. He trained scholars. He mentored leaders. And he prayed — not just for the success of his mission, but for its fruits to ripen long after his return to the mercy of his Lord.
And today, as the verse in Surah Yūnus (10:26) echoes through the ages:
لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا الْحُسْنَىٰ وَزِيَادَةٌ
“To those who do good belongs the best reward, and more.”
We see the ongoing fulfillment of that divine promise.
This past week, Habeebah Muhammad Kamaldeen Al-Adabiyyah, MBE, the great-granddaughter of Shaykh Kamalud-deen, graduated from Harvard Medical School with a Master of Science in Bioethics, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA. This achievement is not merely academic excellence — it is a ziyādah, a “more” from Allah ﷻ, a sign of divine reward continuing to unfold.
Habeebah is the daughter of Shaykh Muhammad Niyi Kamaldeen Al-Adabiy and Hajia Shereefah Muhammad Kamaldeen, both torchbearers of the Adabiyyah legacy. From her journey through medical school to advanced ethical studies, she has never forgotten her roots. Her dedication to community service, her research in autism care, artificial intelligence, clinical ethics, and global health, all point to a soul nurtured by faith and purpose.
Indeed, this success is not isolated. It is one of the countless thamarāt (fruits) growing from the seeds planted by Shaykh Kamalud-deen — a man who believed that serving Allah includes preparing generations for both the Dunya and the Ākhirah.
May Allah continue to increase Shaykh Muhammad Kamalud-deen HabeebuLlahi Musa Al-Adabiy in reward. May his light never fade and his legacy never wane.
And for our sister, Habeebah Muhammad Kamaldeen Al-Adabiyyah —
