Nawfija (pronounced Lor-vu-jo by natives) is an Igbo town in southeastern Nigeria.It is located at the Northern end of Orumba South Local Government of Anambra State.It is bounded originally by six towns namely Akpu at its Northern end,Isulo and Eziagu at its Southern extremes while Ogborji and Ogbunka at its Western-Eastern extremes and Ufuma at its North-East end. Ikenwamba is believed to have m
arried one Ngbori from Ngodo and the marriage was blessed with three sons namely Ovujo,Oro and Aku,the fathers and founders of Nawfija. The ancestral homes of these three were traced back to Nkwuike. The palmtree situated at the palace of Ikekanma and that was there base.In search of food,these three brothers migrated as follows: Ovujo migrated Westwards,while Oro migrated Northwards and Aku Eastwards. Around 1830,Ovujo settled at Aguozi and later at Ugoro, all around the present location of Umuoma.He married three wives from his neighbors and had the following children. His first son,Omanmma (Umuoma).and his brother Ezeogbu (Umuezeogbu) were born by his first wife. The second son was Aguama (Ikeakon'obu) by the second wife who subsequently begot the following; Agbakaja (Amaokwu), Okwasara (Ezeome), Ezeiyi (Umuezeiyi) and Oririgwoma (Umuowahia). Hence we have Aguama now known as Amaokwu, Ezeome, Umuezeiyi and Umuowahia. The third son was Orjikwereuba from the third wife,the ancestral father of Ukabia(Ohukabia). So Ovujo had seven sons that make up the seven villages....
Nawfija is serviced by a number of amenities such as a health center, a secondary school and primary school and a number of Anglican and Catholic Churches. Nawfija also have rivers/streams used for domestic and recreational activities like fishing.Some of the rivers are: Ozi-Aguama,Ozi-Umuezeogbu,Agho Mmiri and Ali.. The streams include: Ogba Nzu,Nwaiyi,Okpuala,Akunneoma,Osu,Ota,Iyiocha,Iyiogbuna and Onyena-efo.All these streams are good for drinking but the most significant ones are: Ogbanzu,Nwaiyi and Akunneoma. Nawfija is also home to very successful and educated Nigerians who can be found everywhere in the world. This is a brief history of Nawfija Town. .
