Many people dream of starting catfish farm but one thing they dont consider is spacing for catfish , this rubber here is not ideal for catfish commercial farming if you put 5pcs just for your trail it ok but for commercial this will not work .

Simple reason is this narrow and small ans will not give the fishes space to move around .

If u really want to make it from catfish farming.ing start with something as big as the 1000 liter white tank but remember that tank can only take 50 fishes to 1kg for best results.

Sorting is very key for success in catfish farming, when you sort it helps you achieve same size fishes during sales , which in turn keeps your profit at a better level up .

But if you dont sort try and maintain various feed sizes at appropriate age of the fishes this helps prevent two many under growth in a particular fish set.

However mistakes during sorting can lead to massive deaths of catfish just like the video below , always make sure never to sort in the high hot afternoon sun .
Make sure to keep your fishes in the water during sorting dont expose them to stay without water.
Avoid holding them so.long in hand hand during sorting .
Try as much as possible to keep them in clean water.

All these this help reduce stress on catfish and reduce death rate during and after sorting

For you to succeed in catfish farming you need to understand the importance of spacing , feeding and good seed , if you keep thinking that you can manage everything and make so much money , then sorry you are just wasting your time .

And unfortunately you will be loosing money and will always go about Facebook posts claiming everyone is making loss.

But take your time and ask yourself this question, if everyone is actually making a loss why is there still very big million dollar catfish feed mills in the country with huge staffs so who are those people buying their products

Until you figure this out and then be ready to learn for free from real farmers you may be in the wrong biz

No shortcut with best results in fish farming although many catfish farmers dont like to hear it but then its an unfortunate truth.

Well this fishes below is 9 weeks from juvenile but the owner is feeling very worried about their growth he believes that with the spacing they have and the feed he has for they they should do better he said they dont eat and the growth is not as expected what could be the problem.

Now the solution to this problem depends on the size of juvenile bought if u buy post fingerling and want them to grow like juvenile it will not work because post fingerling is 2 weeks younger than juvenile

And if you want them to pick faster place them on 1.8mm for 2 weeks if you are not sure if you both post fingerling or juvenile

Don't start claiming you know it better even one week of 1.8mm will make a great difference.

So these are the reasons why the fishes did not pick up as planned.

For people who still believe that there no results in catfish farming its ok to believe what ever works for you , this video here is someone on this page , these fishes are 5 months , 3 weeks from juvenile.

Currently they are 509 pcs and weigh 782kg meaning that they on 1.5kg average weight

Well this is great take a look .

The fishes in this video are 5 months old but the owner is seriously not happy with the results .

They have very poor growth and no weight , the implications of this is 5 months wasted , money lost in all its not a good deal.

But when I asked him some questions I discovered he was making the feed he was using now look at the bad result

Before you make your feed try to understand what are the ingredients needed for fish to make a balanced diet if you are starting I Will always advice you never to make the feeds you use instead reduce the no of fishes u want to stock buy Nigeria company produced feed .

Start and grow then later you can do experiments if you wish .

But as usual many people like learning the hard way .

For new Catfish farmers one thing you must know is that size of feed matters so Much , if you look at this pic you can see its a local feed , they claim its 3mm , if you buy juvenile its best to start them on 1.8mm atleast for 2 weeks before moving to 2mm , reason is that the protein content is higher and that's exactly what you catfish needs for better growth and weight gain ., your smaller fishes needs a smaller feed size they can eat.

Now when you buy juvenile and start with this feed below the result you will get will not take you to next level, reason is that the feed is bigger than juvenile and you dont even know what is the ingredient composition of the feed.

Always remember catfish farming is not a play its a serious biz which needs to be taken seriously

CATFISH FARMERS

I Like to encourage anyone who have interest in trying catfish farming to join the business, but there is something i will never encourage.

Doing the wrong thing that will lead to financial loss , unfortunately most new farmers like hearing sweet fantasy and this has made many crash out of the biz

This rubber below was used by a farmer to start catfish farming as you can see he paid for a plumber to do the plumbing work.

But this rubber here cannot raise a catfish, people come on line to post misleading pics but in reality this will not work .

If you are currently in this situation my advice is start looking for a better pond for best results.

But remember its your choice

Have you ever sold CATFISH before , do you know that you can have serious problems with yiur buyers and then run a huge loss , I dont mean problem of not getting buyers i mean problem that happen during the transaction of sales .

Well I will update the video here i explained some of the problems and solution mean while if you have experienced problems during sales lets hear from you.

Some of these problems may include

A, customers rejecting prices after harvest
B. Customers not paying after harvest
C. Customers bringing their own scale

CATFISH Management needs patience and time to study and understand fish activities, rushing to administer drugs does more harm than good to Catfish but this is a fact many Catfish farmers dont know .

Many farmers on Facebook here will.never read or even watch to understand before commenting, I once posted a pic to explain things while im the comment section i was shocked to see the amount of drug treatment people were quoting while the post was totally different.

No on the pic below you can see the catfish with b lood scare this simply is pointing to overstocked pond with cannibalism in action .

Best solution is separate this bleeding catfish from the rest no treatment is required .

Then create a better space for others in the pond to avoid more injuries

The best treatment for your CATFISH farm , Most catfish farmers are always planning on salt bath , drugs , bitter lead water and so many other things to treat their Catfish but the truth remains that all these treatments are not necessary.

The major sickness of catfish is caused by water contamination and this water contamination are caused by high ammonia in the water .

To stop the high Amonia in catfish these steps needs to be taken .

A . Avoid overstocking
B. Change water as at when preferably every 2 days
C. Make sure to maintain at least 3ft water level at all times
D. Feed your catfish to satisfaction to avoid cannibalism.

If do these things contamination, high mortality will be reduced to 95% .
