St John's Parish, Neni, Honours Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor, Senator Uche Ekwunife, late Enukaeme, 57 others for meritorious service to God
Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, was on Sunday, July 20, 2025, agog with celebration as St John's Catholic Parish, Neni, honoured 60 individuals, who had served the church in different capacities.
The essence of the honour, which came as part of activities to mark the 35th Dedication Anniversary of the St John's church building, was to appreciate the 60 award recipients, for their various contributions to the spiritual and material growth and development of the the Parish.
The award recipients, who cut across all walks of life, included the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, who received on behalf of all the former priests of the Parish; a former Senator who represented Anambra Central in the National Assembly, Dr Uche Ekwunife; a former Traditional Prime Minister of Neni community, the late Chief Anthony Enukaeme, who received the award posthumously, among others.
The epoch-making event began with a concelebrated Holy Mass presided over by the Bishop, who during his homily, enjoined the congregation to focus on accepting the gospel of Jesus Christ wholly, and serve Him cheerfully.
Ezeokafor was during the event blessed a foundation of the Parish's multipurpose hall, and commissioned a toilet facility built for the Parish by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The Chancellor of Awka Diocese, Rev Fr Charles Ndubuisi; the Episcopal Vicar General of the Diocese, Rev Fr Peter Akenyi; the Dean of Neni Deanery, Rev Fr Henry Ezeobi, among others, graced the event.
