Cats Are Not the 'Witches' and 'Wizards' We Stereotype Them to Be in Nigeria/Africa. In Fact, We Need Them in Our Homes. Why?:
During my NYSC year, I was posted to teach in a poor village that ran morning and afternoon schools- primary school and junior secondary school, respectively.
One fateful afternoon, reporting first for duty, God blessed me with a view of a cat and a snake fighting right in front of our poor Administrative Block (a small room at the northeast corner of the school where served as the Principal's Office, Staff Room, Library, Store and all- in short, the Engine Room).
The cat very tactfully killed the snake and made away with (or ate) its head, leaving the body there. Less than a minute later, a goat passing by the snake's lifeless and even headless body ran off swiftly on sighting it. Oh! I laughed like I was watching Sabinus. Lol!
That was the day I knew that goats are afraid of snakes but more importantly, that cats are much needed security pets in every home. It was instantly very clear to me that it wasn't just to deal with rodents like rats that my grandma always reared cats in the house; even though they kept leaving the house into the wild (I guess), on attaining a certain age. Even though many people here hate cats and see them as witches and wizards.
