On Friday, October 11, 2024, in her usual manner of magnanimity, Dr. Glory Edet through her foundation, the Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation joined the world in celebrating the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child and the importance, power, potential of girl children, which took place at Methodist Girls Secondary School, Utu Ikpe, Ikot Ekpene LGA.

In her normal routine, she addressed the cheerful students who were more than proud to have her in their midst to be courageous as a girl child and be hopeful for the future. She danced with them, encouraged them, and gave them gifts.

No one knew the event was divinely organised to touch the life of one girl who had lost hope of education completely.

The school's principal, Mrs Affiong Inua, while appreciating Dr. Edet, for the choice of her school for the celebration, drew her attention to a child, Ms. Abasiofon Essien who lost her father to the cold hands of death weeks before the visit, and according to the Principal, the girl has been unable to pay her fees and was at the verge of dropping out of school. Touched by this story, Dr. Glory Edet immediately without asking the tribe, local government, or state she came from, swong into action and announced a full education(Secondary to University) scholarship to Ms. Abasiofon with further promise to provide all she needs to be okay in life.

This child never saw this coming. She came like every other student to witness the event, but God had a plan for her through Dr. Glory Edet.

Ms. Abasiofon Essien since that day of the pronouncement has been on full scholarship from Dr. Edet.

The event may be over, but the memories will remain evergreen.

This adds up to the over 200 students she has paid tertiary fees for and over 30 students on full scholarship scheme of the Foundation in Higher Institutions.

What a woman!

This is how to be a giver
This is how to give hope
This is how to a motivator
