Dr. Glory Edet Honoured for Impact at IOM2026 Grand Finale

Dr. Glory Edet, Founder and President of the Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation (MASLAG), has been honoured with an Award of Excellence for her outstanding contributions to humanity and her sustained efforts in touching lives through the foundation; Mary Slessor- Akan Glo Foundation.

The recognition was presented at the Ibom Open Maternity (IOM2026 ) Project Grand Finale Dinner, organised by CareLife Foundation hosted by the Uyo Local Government Council on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Ibom Hall, IBB Way, Uyo.

The colourful event brought together stakeholders, partners, community leaders and advocates committed to improving maternal and child health, celebrating impactful individuals and organisations in the society.

Dr. Edet’s recognition underscores MASLAG’s commitment to supporting widows, multiple-birth parents, less privileged students, children and vulnerable members of society through empowerment, education and healthcare support as well as other humanitarian interventions.

The evening featured cultural performances, goodwill messages, awards and recognitions, partner perspectives and a keynote address; creating a fitting platform to celebrate people whose work continue to inspire hope and transform lives.

For Dr. Glory Edet, the honour is not just a recognition of past impact, but a call to do even more.

MASLAG RETURNS ALL GLORY TO GOD AS FOUNDATION MARKS THIRD ANNIVERSARY WITH THANKSGIVING SERVICE

"We are here to return all glory to God because without Him, there would be no Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation." These were the heartfelt words of the President and Founder of the Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation (MASLAG), Dr. Glory Edet as the Foundation celebrated its Third Anniversary with a special Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Four Towns Parish, Uyo.

The service was a moment of gratitude, reflection and renewed commitment as Board of Trustees, Staff and well-wishers gathered to thank God for three years of impactful humanitarian service.

In her remarks, Dr. Edet attributed every milestone recorded by the Foundation to God's faithfulness, noting that the vision and success of MASLAG have been sustained by divine grace.
"Today is dedicated to appreciating God for all He has done for this Foundation and for bringing us this far. Without God, there would be no Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation. He has used us as instruments to put smiles on the faces of countless people," she said, adding that the Foundation has also committed its fourth year into God's hands.

She expressed appreciation to the leadership of The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria for preserving and advancing the enduring humanitarian legacy of the late Scottish missionary, Mary Slessor.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Akaninyene Akankpo, who led in the Thanksgiving paid glowing tribute to Mary Slessor, describing her life as a timeless inspiration for compassion and selfless service.

He highlighted the Foundation's numerous interventions over the past three years, including scholarships, skills acquisition and empowerment programmes, business grants, and other life-changing initiatives targeted at vulnerable members of the society.

He also commended Dr. Glory Edet for her unwavering commitment to humanity and her compassionate leadership, which continues to drive the Foundation's expanding impact.

The thanksgiving service featured special prayers for the Foundation led by Rt. Rev. Ofonime Udo, Moderator of Akwa Synod of The Presbyterian Church, Nigeria while Rev. Asuquo Bassey delivered an inspiring Homily on the theme, "Legacy," challenging believers to live lives of lasting impacts through service to God and humanity.

As part of the celebration, the Foundation presented a donation to the church in support of its ongoing building project, reaffirming its commitment to giving back and partnering with institutions that promote faith and community development.

The thanksgiving service concluded with joyful praise and thanksgiving, as members of the Foundation returned all glory to God for three remarkable years of touching lives, restoring hope and making a lasting difference.

MASLAG MARKS 3RD ANNIVERSARY, EMPOWERS MULTIPLE-BIRTH FAMILIES, STUDENTS AND WIDOWS

The Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation (MASLAG) on Saturday, June 27, marked its third anniversary with another remarkable demonstration of compassion, empowerment and hope, extending support to multiple-birth parents and children, students, widows and other vulnerable members of the society.

The colourful anniversary celebration, held at the Foundation's office, Plot 131, F-Line, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, brought together beneficiaries, stakeholders and well-wishers to celebrate three years of impactful humanitarian service.

Speaking at the event, the President and Founder of MASLAG, Dr. Glory Edet, an Associate Professor, expressed gratitude to God for sustaining the Foundation since its official launch three years ago.

"Today, we are officially marking our third anniversary. God has been faithful throughout these years. Whatever we give here is a seed that must germinate and transform lives," she said.

Dr. Edet paid glowing tribute to the late Scottish Missionary, Mary Slessor, whose courageous campaign against the killing of twins and the banishment of their mothers inspired the establishment of the Foundation.

Highlighting MASLAG's achievements over the past three years, she disclosed that the Foundation has supported over 300 students with school fees, while 20 students are currently on full scholarship. She added that numerous multiple-birth parents and other beneficiaries have been trained in vocational skills such as tailoring, hairdressing and catering, and empowered with start-up equipment and financial support. Thousands of widows and multiple-birth families have also benefited from food items, financial assistant and business support.

She also appreciated The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria for preserving and promoting the enduring legacy of Mary Slessor.

Earlier, the Coordinator of Programmes, Mrs. Jane Essien, said the Foundation has remained steadfast in improving the lives of the less privileged through scholarships, skills acquisition programmes, business empowerment and other humanitarian interventions. She commended Dr. Edet for her unwavering passion for humanity and prayed for greater grace and strength for her.

Also speaking, Obonganwan Ofonmbuk Inyang, wife of the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom, congratulated MASLAG on its third anniversary, describing Dr. Glory Edet as "the Mary Slessor of this generation" for her selfless service to the vulnerable. She prayed for God's continued blessings, good health and greater resources to sustain the Foundation's humanitarian mission.

A member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, Dr. Mrs. Eme Esiere, applauded Dr. Edet's exceptional generosity, noting that her kindness has restored hope to countless students, widows, multiple-birth families and other indigent persons across Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Monica Edem and Master Kufre expressed profound appreciation to the Foundation for its life-changing interventions, saying MASLAG has brought hope and relief to many families. They prayed for God's continued blessings upon the Founder and the entire MASLAG family.

The anniversary celebration featured the presentation of school fees support to students, financial support to widows and multiple-birth parents, as well as the distribution of relief items, reaffirming MASLAG's unwavering commitment to transforming lives, restoring dignity and giving hope to the less privileged.
