GOVERNMENT SCHOOL, IKOT OFFIOK /UKAT CELEBRATES A HISTORIC END-OF-TERM PARTY AND AWARD DAY
Government School, Ikot Offiok/ Ukat in Nsit Ibom made history as the school hosted its first ever End-of-Term Party and Award Day after two decades of its establishment in 1957. What began as an ordinary school term blossomed into a colourful and heartfelt celebration as pupils, parents, community leaders and distinguished guests gathered to witness a long-awaited moment of joy, unity and transformation.
The atmosphere was lifted with a touching exhortation from Pst. Samuel Akpadiaha, who spoke directly to the hearts of the children. He reminded them that obedience, good behaviour and discipline are not just instructions but stepping stones to a brighter and purposeful future. Speaking on the theme “Fulfilling Your Purposeful Destiny” and drawing from Ephesians 6 verse 1 to 4, he encouraged the pupils to embrace responsibility early so they could grow into the leaders they are destined to become.
The Chairman of the Occasion, Ete Idung Obong ( ESV) Ekpoabasi Bassey, brought warmth and depth to the celebration. In his remarks, he expressed profound joy that for over decades within sixty seven years of the school existence the children of Government School, Ikot Offiok/ Ukat were experiencing a full-fledged party and award ceremony. He applauded the management and staff for breathing new life into the school and re-igniting hope in the community. In a gesture that touched many hearts, he presented each pupil with educational materials such as pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners and exercise books to support their learning journey.
The event also had in attendance Ete Idung of Ukat Nsit Obong. Sunday Paul Inyang who further encouraged the children and commended the school Management for the transformation already taking place.
The Headmistress and Administrator, Mrs Eno A. Fenton, delivered a deeply emotional and reflective address. She narrated the remarkable progress the school has witnessed since she assumed leadership. Enrollment has increased, establishment of a functional ICT centre by NITDA and the general learning atmosphere has been revived in ways that parents and teachers have not seen in many years. She described the celebration as more than an event, calling it a symbol of the school’s rebirth and proof of what dedication and teamwork can achieve.
Parents responded with gratitude, appreciating the School management Team for their renewed commitment. Many acknowledged that the transformation of the school has undergone in such a short period and credited the School management team for restoring confidence in public education within the community.
The School Based Management Committee under the Leadership of Elder Tommy Udo-Ime JP shared its achievements, including the raising of one hundred stands of palm fruit seedlings to support the future revenue of the school and her agricultural development in line with our dear Executive Governor His Excellency , Pastor Umo Eno PHD Arise Agenda
Adding to the significance of the day, the Chairman of the School Based Management Committee, Elder Udo-Ime Tommy, delivered a warm and heartfelt vote of thanks. He appreciated the teachers for investing their time, passion and love into the children, describing their efforts as seeds that will shape the future of the village. He further assured the community that under his leadership, and with the support of other stakeholders, the village is working towards establishing a Secondary School as there's no such institution within the neighborhood
He expressed confidence that this long desired dream will soon become a reality .
Even in the joy of the celebration, the Headmistress humbly shared some of the challenges the school still faces, especially the need for a functional latrine, consistent water supply and proper perimeter fencing to ensure the safety of the children. She expressed hope that with continued support from government and kind-hearted individuals, these needs will be met. She concluded her remarks by thanking God for sustaining the school through every season.
The pupils added beauty and excitement to the day with presentations that filled the audience with pride and joy. They performed a welcome song, delivered an impressive news presentation through the Primary 6 News Press and Digital Media Club and rendered a melodious choir ministration. The children left with gifts and financial rewards from the School Based Committee, Chairman of the Occasion, guests and appreciative parents.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom, the Special Assistant on New Media, Comr. Daniel Udofia, expressed appreciation for the transformation witnessed in the school. He commended the teachers for their commitment and encouraged them to remain steadfast in shaping the destinies of the next generation.
Also speaking, Obongawan of Ukat Nsit encouraged the teachers to continue with passion and dedication. She proudly noted that the school has produced many professionals, including lawyers, doctors, engineers and other great citizens meaningfully to the society. She urged the community to remain united in supporting the school so that the new wave of growth can be sustained.
