*Making the Right Choice in Life*

*Text:* Ecclesiastes 7:1-10
7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth. 7:2 It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. 7:3 Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better. 7:4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. 7:5 It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. 7:6 For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity. 7:7 Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.

*Memory Verse:*
Deuteronomy 30:19
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

*Brief Commentary*
Life, it is said is full of choices; we are free to make our choice, but we cannot escape the consequences. Our reading today shows us several pairs and also tells us which is better. He began by tell us that if we have the privilege of choosing between wealth and a good name, we should chose the good name (v.1ff). It is also better to be sober than going for merriment, etc. We will be confronted with such choices between two or more things daily. Here, wisdom is greatly needed to know the right choice to make. Believers in Christ have an advantage over others when it comes to making choices. Paul tells us in Romans 8:14 that as many as are led by the spirit, they are the sons of God. Several other Bible passages show us that believers car be led by the Holy Spirit if we yield to Him. We should allow God to guide us in the choices we make daily. We should not be led by our senses but by the Spirit. God still leads even in the little things of life.

*Declaration:*
*We are children of God and the choices we make are important, by the leadership of the Holy Spirit we shall not make any choice in error, His wisdom guides us dally.*

*Prayer:*
Lord, lead us least we stray. There are many decisions to make, guide us always.

*Topic:*
*Our Duty Post*

*Text:* 2 Samuel 20:23 - 26
20:23 Now Joab was over all the host of Israel: and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites: 20:24 And Adoram was over the tribute: and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder: 20:25 And Sheva was scribe: and Zadok and Abiathar were the priests: 20:26 And Ira also the Jairite was a chief ruler about David.

*Memory Verse:*
Romans 12:4-5
12:4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

*Brief Commentary*
Like a work place where everyone has an assigned duty post. In the passage before us today, we see the different assignments given to some people (vv 23 -26). About eight of them were assigned to various duty posts. It reminds us of Apostle Paul exhortation that to each of us, grace has been and that the body is made up of different and unique parts (Romans 12:5) In the same way, believers are assigned different responsibilities in the body of Christ. It is expected in stewardship that we be faithful (1 Corinthians 4 :2). Have you located your place in the body of Christ? Are you grateful in the position God kept you, or are you comparing yourself with others and becoming envious of them? Let us find our places today and stay where he keeps us. We must be up and doing so that when the Master comes he will find us faithfully doing our works at our duty posts.

*Declaration:*
*We are soldiers of the Lord and will not take His postings for granted we shall remain faithful so that when our Master comes He will find us at our duty posts*

*Prayer:*
Lord, help us to find our places in the body of Christ and faithfully continue in our duties to the end.

*The Fruit of Wisdom*

*Text:* 2 Samuel 20:11-22
20:11 And one of Joab's men stood by him, and said, He that favoureth Joab, and he that is for David, let him go after Joab. 20:12 And Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a cloth upon him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still. 20:13 When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri. 20:14 And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Bethmaachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him. 20:15 And they came and besieged him in Abel of Bethmaachah, and they cast up a bank against the city, and it stood in the trench: and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down. 20:16 Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee. 20:17 And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do hear. 20:18 Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter. 20:19 I am one of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD? 20:20 And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy. 20:21 The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall. 20:22 Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab. And he blew a trumpet, and they retired from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

*Memory Verse:*
James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

*Brief Commentary*
After the death of Amasa, the pursuit of Sheba continued (vv.11,13) Sheba ran, passing through many lands until he entered the city of Abe Beth Maacah to take refuge (vv. 14-15), so Joab and his men surrounded the city to destroy it (v.14). In the mist of all these, a wise woman came out to talk with Joab (vv. 16-21), as a result, the army stopped and she threw the head of Sheba over to Joab (w.21-22). Her wise words saved her city from destruction (v.22).Our words can build or destroy a city. Let us trust God to operate in wisdom and cause our words to be filled with grace (Colossians 4:6). Like the wise woman of Abel Beth, let our use of words aim at saving others and bringing glory to God. We need to trust God to operate in the wisdom in every facet of our lives.

*Declaration:*
*We are children of God and operate by the Spirit of God, we have the wisdom of God and we will walk in this wisdom daily*

*Prayers:*
Lord, fill us with Your wisdom for our day to day activities.
