*A Shared History: Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State*
Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State, located in the southern region of Nigeria, share a rich and intertwined history. Prior to 1987, these two states were part of the same administrative entity, known as Cross River State. The state was created in 1967, comprising the present-day areas of both Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
In 1987, the federal government decided to divide Cross River State into two separate states: Akwa Ibom State and Cross River State. This decision was made to facilitate more effective governance and development in the region.
Despite the division, the people of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States share a common heritage, culture, and ancestry. Many families have relatives on both sides of the state border, and intermarriage between the two groups has been common. The shared history and cultural ties between the two states are evident in their similar traditions, languages, and customs.
*A Call for Unity*
As Dr. Daniel Jack aptly puts it, "We are brothers and sisters, let us love one another and stop causing confusion among ourselves." The division of the state may have created administrative boundaries, but it did not erase the deep-seated connections between the people.
It's essential for the people of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States to recognize and celebrate their shared heritage. By doing so, they can foster a sense of unity and cooperation, working together to promote development and progress in the region.
*Together We Unite*
As Dr. Jack emphasizes, "Let us help each other instead of bringing us down, let us lift each other up instead of bringing us down." By embracing their shared history and cultural ties, the people of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States can build a brighter future for themselves and future generations.
May the people of these two states continue to cherish their bond and work towards a more harmonious and prosperous relationship. God bless Akwa Ibom State, and God bless Cross River State.
