Hey Test-takers,
Letโs be very honest, for most candidates, the Listening Module in IELTS is โa mental battlefield," right?
Even with good ears and decent English, most still struggle to cross Band 7.0
Why is this the case?
Here are the 3 reasons this module seems like a trap for most of you:
1. Your brain is listening, but not processing
IELTS Listening is not passive, hence, youโre not just hearing words, youโre decoding them, filtering the information, tracking changes, and predicting the next move, while writing answers at the same time.
Many candidates get mentally overloaded because they havenโt trained their brain to multitask at speed. Thatโs why they โmiss itโ even when they heard it.
2. You havenโt trained your ears to recognize natural distractions
Native speakers pause, correct themselves, switch thoughts mid-sentence, or use fillers like โumโ and โwell actuallyโ This isnโt bad audio, itโs deliberate. IELTS uses these tricks to distract you from the right answer. Unless youโre trained to identify and ignore those traps, youโll keep second-guessing yourself and choosing wrong.
3. You lack a framework for each question type
Multiple choice. Sentence completion. Matching features. Flowchart, etc
Different approach and strategies are needed in respective question types.
Guessing is a strategy
Hence, you need to learn how to spot keywords, anticipate paraphrases, and track answers with ruthless precision.
This is exactly why I have created the May Premium IELTS Class. Not just to help you pass, but to transform the way you listen, read, write, and speak in this test.
