Title: Dangling Fish
Medium: Ink on paper

This piece DANGLING FISH is more than just a marine sketch. It represents the tension of survival and movement, the quiet struggle of staying afloat when life feels uncertain. Just like the fish suspended in mid-motion, many of us find ourselves dangling between decisions, directions, and desires.

It’s a metaphor for the drift whether (emotional, spiritual, mental, or societal), that we all experience at various sectors in life. The lightness of ink against bare paper amplifies the fragility of the moment, yet its elegance reminds us that even in drift, there’s beauty.

Exhibited as part of DRIFT 2025, this artwork echoes a universal language of searching, surrendering, and swimming on.

DRIFT - Featured Work

Title: Udo Nkereuwem

Udo Nkereuwem is an Efik/Ibibio phrase meaning “second son of the Nkereuwem lineage.” This piece pays homage not just to me as a person, but to heritage, legacy, and identity. Though rendered in wax and ink on paper, it captures the layered essence of self; where bold contrast meets with subtle emotion. The interplay of light and shadow reflects the journey of navigating individuality within a collective history.

Through DRIFT 2025, I’ve embraced a deeper exploration of my cultural roots, transforming personal stories into visual dialogue. This work is a quiet but powerful reminder of where I come from, and who I continue to become.

Title: ENTWINED REFLECTIONS
Medium: Rope & Thread on Paper
Year: 2025

This piece is a meditative expression of my inner thought, identity, and self examination, crafted with deliberate lines made not by use of pen, but with rope and thread, echoing the essence of DRIFT as a movement away from convention.
The work’s single-line construction depicts the way human thoughts often spiral, connect, and overlap—imperfect, continuous, yet deeply personal. The use of tactile materials blurs the line between drawing and sculpture, engaging both sight and touch.

In Entwined Reflections, the subject appears lost in thought, fingers to lips, eyes sharp—mirroring the internal dialogue we often carry. With a total departure from traditional portraiture, choosing to sculpt presence with thread rather than pigment. This in itself is a bold drift from realism into the abstract representation of consciousness.

The choice of material isn't merely stylistic, it’s symbolic. Thread becomes memory, rope becomes an identity, and each twist or loop captures the entanglements of reflection. This is drawing reimagined, introspection physicalized, and art unbound.

This art piece explores the essence of feminine strength and elegance through experimental media (rope, ink, and pastel on paper).

In DRIFT, Uyai Aboikpa symbolizes the quiet power and beauty that emerges when form is allowed to flow beyond traditional boundaries.
She is not in any way confined to perfect lines or familiar shapes, but formed in spontaneity, bold marks, and layered texture.
She represents a drift from polished ideals to raw authenticity, this is where beauty can not be defined, but discovered.

This piece of art explores the fragmented self in a fast-changing world we live in. With deliberate scratches and smudges, Distorted Identity reflects the psychological, emotional and cultural dissonance many face, divided between belonging and escaping, tradition and technology, self and system. The use of a fork as a tool disturbs the expected, showing how modern pressures distort who we truely are.
