“One of the most dangerous things is not always what looks obviously wrong it is what becomes so normal that nobody questions it anymore.”
When Familiarity Silences Discernment
Something doesn't become right simply because we have become comfortable with it.
That is one of the hardest lessons to learn.
There are things that would have shocked people years ago, but after seeing them repeatedly, people eventually stopped questioning them.
Why?
Because repetition can make something feel normal.
And once something feels normal, people stop asking whether it is right.
That's why discernment is so important.
The enemy doesn't always need to convince you that something is good.
Sometimes all he needs to do is make you comfortable with it.
Think about it.
The first time you encounter something, your conscience may question it.
The second time, you notice it.
The tenth time, you become familiar with it.
Eventually, you may participate in it without even asking yourself why.
That's how normalization works.
And this is why a believer cannot live entirely by culture, trends, entertainment, social media, friendships, or public opinion.
You have to continually bring things before God.
Ask:
“Does this agree with God's Word?”
“What is this producing in me?”
“Is this drawing me closer to God or slowly making me comfortable with things He is asking me to leave?”
Because something can be entertaining and still affect your spirit.
Something can be fashionable and still be unhealthy for your walk.
Something can be accepted socially and still be something God is asking you personally to walk away from.
And here's something important:
Discernment is not suspicion of everybody.
Discernment is the ability to recognize what you should receive, what you should reject, what you should question, and what you should walk away from.
The Bible says:
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21
That means you don't swallow everything simply because it is popular.
You examine it.
You test it.
You discern it.
Deep takeaway
Never let familiarity replace discernment.
Just because you've seen something a thousand times doesn't mean God wants it in your life.

Be careful what you repeatedly expose yourself to. What you tolerate repeatedly can eventually become what you accept unconsciously.

There are things you will have to walk away from, not because everyone else is doing something wrong, but because God is calling you to something different.

Popularity is not proof of God's approval.

Learn to discern. Learn to say no. Learn to stand alone when necessary.
You don't need the crowd's permission to obey God.
