Consolidated Chapel of NUJ, AKS Council, having fulfilled all constitutional requirements, was inaugurated by Joe Effiong-led Execo on Sept 5, 2012. We are one of the Chapels of NUJ and we abide by the roles:
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is a professional media organization aiming to connect journalists nationwide with the information and opportunities they need to advance profess
ionally and improve media in Nigeria. To safeguard the freedom of the press and the freedom of Journalists to engage in legitimate professional activities;
2. To collect, preserve and publish such statistical and other information as may be useful for professional purposes;
3. To encourage the participation of members in decision-making processes in the Union and at their places of work in particular and the society in general;
4. To protect and advance the socio-economic interests of the society and such other objectives as are lawful and are consistent with the spirit and practice of journalism;
5. To negotiate conditions of service and establish welfare schemes for members
7. To ensure strict adherence to the Union’s code of Ethics as approved by the NEC or the National/Special National Conference;
8. To collaborate with organizations with similar objectives to defend the rights of Nigerian citizens and society at large. Company Overview:
The 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Chapter 11 subsection 22. states that ’’The press, radio, television and other agencies of the mass media shall at all times be free to uphold the fundamental objectives contained in this Chapter and uphold the responsibility and accountability of the Government to the people.’’
