IBENO COUNCIL BOSS DUBS UDOM'S COMPLETION AGENDA A FAILED ONE IN IBENO LOCAL GOVERNMENT
.......urges Pastor Umo Eno to reverse the trend
.......Says Udom disapproved money demanded by Surveyor General of the State for a new map and bill never signed to law

As Akwa Ibom State heralds the dawn of a new administration codenamed "The Golden Era", the Executive Chairman of Ibeno LGC, High Chief Williams Mkpah has described the completion agenda of the outgone Governor Udom Emmanuel as a failed one in Ibeno Local Government.

Speaking to newsmen after the swearing in of Pastor Umo Eno as Governor of the State, Mkpah described former Governor Udom's attempt to remap the State and the lack of government presence in Ibeno for 8 years as a hideous situation that will leave a sour taste in the mouth of Obolo people for years to come.

Mkpah expressed dissapointment that no developmental infrastructure was sited in Ibeno under Udom Emmanuel, except an uncompleted highway project, referencing the former Governor as one that hated the Obolo people. This, he noted was the reason he refused to attend any project commissioning in Akwa Ibom State in protest of the absence of commissioned projects in Ibeno.

"Obolo people are sad and bitter that we could be described by the Governor as an insignificant minority despite being the economic nerve center of the State, meaning he had no reason to listen to our yearnings. No Obolo child born and unborn will forget Governor Udom Emmanuel", he said.

High Chief Mkpah noted that when he took Ibeno stakeholders for a meeting with the immediate past Governor, he disrespected them and refused to give them a listening ear and the meeting ended inconclusively because he outrightly hated Obolo people.

The Ibeno Council helmsman stated that his romance with former Governor Udom dated back to 2015 when he brought him to campaign in Ibeno under the platform of Akwa Ibom Consolidation Alliance (ACA). He disclosed that the former Governor during his visit to Ibeno was amazed at how filthy, dirty and undeveloped the oil producing area was and pledged to clean up the place when he becomes Governor, ensuring that Mobil uses Ibeno as a role model and case study for oil producing communities in the country.

Mkpah further noted that his belief in Udom was strengthened when upon receipt of his first State allocation as Governor, he brought the manager of CCECC to commence the construction of the Ibeno road only for it to be abandoned afterwards.

The Ibeno first Citizen stressed that he used his personal money to campaign for Udom in 2015 with the hope that as Governor he will liberate Ibeno people but sadly, he gave them a painful payback by trying to cede their land through the idea of remapping.

"Sad to say, at Udom's exit he has not done well for Ibeno people. This issue of remapping will leave a bitter taste in the mouth of Ibeno people for hundreds of years to come. The map doesn't stop any Governor from providing social amenities to a State, Attah being an architect and the father of modern Akwa Ibom State should have been so worried about a map but he never did. Akpabio used the same map to build and transform the State to an uncommon destination, but Its surprising that at the tail end of Udom's administration, the map became a problem. Its a sad development that different people now have different versions of the map of Akwa Ibom State in their hands, courtesy of Udom Emmanuel", he mourned.

"The signing of the Petroleum Industry Act ( PIA) into law is the reason the former governor wants to tear us apart, he is only interested in making his local government litoral, thereby annexing other people's villages to Onna his home town, and one will ask, why is the remapping only in the coastal communities and not the upland?"

"Udom wanted to give Onna people a parting gift and he feels the best gift he can give to Onna people for eight years is annexing other peoples land to them? He should have thought of another better gift to his people, not the Obolo land. I was Udom's very good friend but the Akwa Ibom Map Bill divided our friendship" - he opined.

Responding to questions on his response to the fragile security situation of the Local Government, Mkpa noted that former Governor Udom Emmanuel rebuffed his request for speed boats and engines to aid the fight against sea pirates, prompting him to recruit a special police force from Awka and put on ground a small police unit to commence the security project. This efforts he noted had yielded fruits with the decimation of many of the pirates and reduction in water way related crimes.

However, in a very shocking revelation, High Chief Mkpa stated that contrary to reports in sections of the media that a new map exists for the State, the former Governor categorically told him he had not signed the remapping bill neither had a new map for the State been produced because he didn't approve the financial request from the Surveyor General of the State for a new map to be produced. He described the news as mere propaganda.

"The Former Governor met with me and we discussed and he told me he has not signed any bill concerning the map into law, nor has he produced for Akwa Ibom a new map. The Former Governor in a conversation with me few days to his handing over told me he did not approve the financial request the State Surveyor General brought for him to produce a new map. I am coming home to tell my people that what you heard in the media was fake news" he stressed.

Describing Governor Umo Eno as humility personified and convinced in his capacity to do things differently in his regime in accordance with the will of the masses, Mkpa promised that the Obolo youths will vacate the roadblocks, give peace a chance and allow normalcy return to the area as a mark of respect to the new Governor.

He stated that justice will speak for Ibeno people as they have welcomed Pastor Umo Eno with open arms, expressing willingness to work with and support him.

"Pastor Umo Eno is a Governor we love and ready to support. Udom Emmanuel is alone in this project of remapping Akwa Ibom State as critical stakeholders in the country and State and even the Suveyor General of the federation is in support of the Obolo people. We are in court to challenge the anomaly and I can assure you that justice will be brought to bear on this matter" he concluded.

EDUCATION TOPS 2021 AGENDA AS GOV EMMANUEL RE-DEDICATES AKWA IBOM

Revolution in the education sector forms the crux of the Akwa Ibom State Government’s focus as the new year begins.

This revolution, best described as war in the education sector, comes with a physical revamp of infrastructure, retraining of teachers, employment of new ones and security of facilities.

Governor Udom Emmanuel made these known, Saturday at the Government House Banquet Hall, during a special solemn assembly to usher in the New Year 2021 and rededicate the state to God.

The Governor also predicted a better season for every sector as his administration is poised to wage war against all economic storms that hitherto militated against the speedy completion of some projects.

Pledging to reverse the trend in education tourism by Nigerians, he expressed worry on the quest to go abroad to acquire education, even in smaller African countries.

“If go to these smaller West African countries you see a lot of Nigerians there some of those universities they go to attend are not as neat as the secondary schools that we have here and you see a whole lot of Nigerians. When did we lose our pride?

“How can we be going to these smaller countries to school? We must stop it. If not anywhere, in Akwa Ibom and then try to make sure we get things right going forward”.

“In 2021 we have declared war on education the same way we declared on healthcare in the state before Covid-19. We have a comprehensive education agenda.

“We’ve mapped out. We have an education think-tank. We’ve linked up with all the Akwa Ibom eggheads across the world and we meet with them on zoom; wherever you are, once we know you have something to contribute to the development of the state, education-wise, we contact you.

"We have been compiling and we are going to launch out aggressively. We will start with physical infrastructures of those schools.

"We will train the teachers; all the secondary schools in Uyo must be fenced round beginning from this January and we will provide security men in those schools to keep the facilities we buy in those schools. Let us correct this anomaly”, he said.

The Governor however sued for parents’ cooperation in providing their children with such necessities as uniforms and writing materials, while government strives to provide infrastructure, teachers’ training and security and other needs in pursuit of the agenda, adding that there was need to return to the system of setting up committees in villages to ensure the security of school properties to complement government's efforts.

“This year we will go back to the old structure of village councils that will control those schools when we finish with the provision of the physical infrastructure we will hand it back to the village council who will help us take care of the schools”, the Governor said.

The Akwa Ibom Chief Executive, reechoing the importance of adhering to the precautionary measures against the corona virus disease, said the government cannot afford the socio-economic impact of another lockdown and does not wish to, if the people cooperate by obeying the protocols.

“Covid-19 is real. I am at the forefront of the fight. Let’s do everything possible to protect ourselves. If we painstakingly obey all the Covid-19 protocols, I will not have any reason to lockdown the state. You might be strong in faith but some people are vulnerable, protect those that are vulnerable.

"Please parents, we are continuing with our first term to stop on 23rd January, 2021. I don’t think if we obey Covid-19 protocol I will have need to put those children back home.

Governor Emmanuel promised further investments in the health sector to ensure that each of the three Senatorial Districts in the state has a training centre for nurses and midwives.

He commended the agricultural sector for the abundance of rice in the state during the 2020 national lockdown, while promising to revisit production in other subsectors to boost output and ensure that the state has no reason to import food items that can be cultivated within the state, by the end of 2021.

The Governor sued for the support of operators of hospitality outfits in the state for the state’s innovations in the small and medium scale enterprises by patronizing the Ibom tissue paper factory, as he cautioned religious leaders to observe decorum in the discharge of their responsibilities and not use their platforms to instigate political disharmony in the state.

Delivering a sermon on the theme of the event, "We are for Signs and Wonders", the President of Holyghost Tabernacle International, Apostle Ben Offiong, said manifestation of signs and wonders is God's attribute that ought to be seen in his legitimate children.

The clergy explained that for one to secure his heritage in God and live in the realm of signs and wonders, he needs to be born into the family of God and continuously increase his capacity through intake of God's word.

He predicted that Governor Emmanuel's resolve to remain steadfast with God, shall lead to a boost in completion of projects and programmes initiated by the administration.

The rededication of the state to God was led by Dr Sunday Mbang(CON), Bishop Isaiah Isong and the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Christians Association of Nigeria, Rev. Ndueso Ekwere.

It was in such a gathering like this last year that the Ibom Deep Seaport project was brought before God in prayer, and today the project is a reality having been given greenlight by the Federal Government.

PRESS RELEASE

RE: WAR HITS AKWA IBOM WATER COMPANY OVER MD POSITION

As the Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited, my attention has been drawn to a spurious and misleading story published by The Mail Newspaper captioned: “War Hits Akwa Ibom Water Company over MD Position".

I wish to state categorically that this is a piece of evil hatched from the pit of hell, intended to sow seeds of discord. It is a hallucination of the author and his cohorts. The acting MD/CEO firmly states that this is false news as the Acting Managing Director has

1. Never ever had the said conversation and interaction with the Chairman Board of Directors.

2. Never replaced ten (10) Ad Hoc staff in the company. We have just concluded an extensive audit exercise of which management and the Board of Directors were in support;
On the advert and qualification of the Ag MD/CEO, the team of fabricators of this falsehood only displayed their bias.

It is obvious that the reporter has refused to pin his or her name to the baseless allegation and rather resorted to going public without verifying this deceptive report by reaching out to the Management of Akwa Ibom Water Company.

As the Acting MD/CEO, I want to state that I never provided such information.
It is disappointing as we take into cognizance that The Mail news has lent itself to be used as a medium to publish this uncorroborated news just to dent the hard earned reputation of:

• Hon. (Prince) Uwem Ita Etuk, the Chairman Board of Directors, Akwa Ibom Water Company

• Elder Effiong Essien, The Head of Civil Service

• Engr.(Mrs.) Ime Nsikan-George Asuquo, The Acting MD

• And the entire management of Akwa Ibom Water Company

A development, management totally frowns at. And we wonder if this is ethical in journalism as a profession.

If a news article is given to The Mail by their acclaimed SOURCE, they should have reached out to the persons mentioned to ascertain such before publication.

However, I wish to state emphatically that no amount of blackmail or sponsored erroneous publications will distract us from discharging our assigned duties.

BREAKING NEWS!

Nsima Ekere's N20m propaganda booklet against Udom Emmanuel exposed

APC governorship flagbearer, Mr. Nsima Ekere, has taken delivery of a N20million propaganda material against Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The booklet entitled "Endless Lies of a Deacon Governor", was delivered to Ekere ahead of his campaign flag-off on Monday, January 21, 2019, when the materials will be distributed.

Nsima Ekere who is said to have sponsored the hatchet publication through his security aide, Mr. Uyio Nathaniel, received 10,000 copies of the booklet as soon as he arrived Uyo on Sunday, 20th.

Sources privy to the hatchet job which was contracted to some former aides to the former senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, was implemented in connivance with Etim Etime, Inemesit Inah, Udo Silas, Clement Ikpatt, Abasiandikan Nkono, Anietie Usen, Utibe Ukim, Udo Silas, Iboro Otongaran, N.T.A Efo and Attah Ikiddeh.

The 26 page booklet which is to serve as a propaganda tool to discredit Governor Udom Emmanuel, is filled with concocted lies.

EMMANUEL UKPONG-UDO, the Ikono/Ini sensation.

By David Akpan

I first set eyes on him at Itak during the inauguration reception of Hon. Itoro Columba as transition Committee Chairman after ages of hearing about his potential, liberality, large heartedness and passion for the empowerment and emancipation of his kith and kin. As he entered the arena that day, loud cheers rended the air.

His impact, influence and fame spread abroad and he went about leaving lasting positive impressions in his wake wherever he went. I learnt Emman Ukpong Udo wasn't interested in politics at the time but the huge lacuna created by the absence of federal presence in Ikono/Ini and the unimpressive performance of the incumbent Ikono/Ini representative which desperately required a remedy pushed Ikono/Ini people to seek a saviour in him. The ever willing Macaire like the biblical Samuel replied "here i'm i send me".

He defeated another performer, Rt. Hon.Victor Udofia by sheer providence at the primaries to clinch the PDP House of Reps ticket, a feat that has left me awestruck till today. But sincerely Ikono/Ini people made their choice and we must respect it. Because of the approach his media team employed in showcasing him which was alien to my principles and hurting to the image of my client as at then, i developed a strong indignation for him.

To summarise the long story, at Macaire's request yesterday, we met and he appealed we bury the hatchet and forge ahead in the best interest of Ikono/Ini. In his words and i quote "David you fought well but from now let's work together". I think those lines made sense to my consciousness as a growth and progress minded Ikono son.

An interaction with him revealed that his insatiable curiosity to bring to bear his ideologies of effective representation fueled his decision to be the voice and ear of the good people of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency at the National Assembly not self aggrandisement. He may be a green horn politically but based on his antecedents, professional acumen and level of exposure, i'm optimistic Ikono/Ini will be better for it.

SAVING AKWA IBOM FROM THE IMPENDING APOCALYPSE

By Edidiong Udobia

Governor Samuel Ortom was elected governor of Benue state under the All Progressives Congress, APC in 2015. By early 2018, Benue had witnessed the single highest mass death in the country. Almost a hundred people have been killed by the bloodthirsty Fulani herdsmen in two different mass attacks and among the victims were Catholic priests. We mourned for a while. Protested while the pain and anger lasted to the viewing pleasure of an insensitive government. Right now, we have moved past that grief.

Former governor of Kogi state, Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may not have been a poster child for responsible governance, but his successor, Governor Yahaya Bello of the APC, has literally become a deadly plague to the people of Kogi. It is now on record that Kogi is the first and only state in the country that despite not having any visible crisis, the people needed relief materials to survive; a situation which prompted the rice contribution by members of the Nigerian senate some months ago.

The illustrations above are just two out of the many Nigerian states under affliction in the name of belonging to the ruling party. Imo state under Rochas Okorocha's APC has become an object of ridicule. Rauf Aregbashola's administration had reduced Osun to a state of penury, and the people probably saw the last governorship election as a golden opportunity to free the state from the bo***ge of the APC. But in broad daylight, the will of Osun people was suppressed by the same party they willingly submitted their state to. Adorned in her full regalia of insensitivity, all along, the APC led federal government completely left Osun people at the mercy of Aregbashola's absurdities, but turned around to unleash her full might on the people during election for daring to set themselves free.

Our politics seems to have a huge amount of complicity in its DNA, and because politics is the fulcrum of the society in the 21st century, the overbearing influence of its gene is the complicit, failing society that we live in. Election season is here again, and as usual, we are witnessing the worst of politics - from the connivance to suppress the truth, deliberate efforts to bury facts to the rise of falsehood and bigotry. Akwa Ibom state has had a fair share of this election frenzy. However, the undeniable truth is that every right thinking Akwa Ibomite knows the impending dangers should APC get hold of the state. If nothing else has sent a clearer message, the outcome of the just concluded APC primary elections should have.

For some Akwa Ibom people, the current crop of APC leaders strikes a sense of bereavement in them. For others, it's a sad reminder of the political holocaust that once plagued the state. Biblically, most of the APC leaders today are the locusts, the cankerworms, the caterpillers, and the palmerworms that had greedily eaten the bounties of the state for many years. Fact is, there is no alien among the current APC leaders; their faces are all familiar, and their individual/collective personalities are well known to the public. So, despite whatever beautiful appearances they try to put up before Akwa Ibom people, they will always be a true picture of doomsday - not everybody will agree with this, not necessarily because it's a lie but because they have chosen to be complicit.

When it comes to a critical issue like electing leaders, being complicit (for whatever reason) can only have a momentary gratification. Take Nigeria for instance. In 2015, we voted out an educated president to bring an uneducated one amidst wild ecstasy. Less than four years after, Nigerians are all sounding uneducated because they are debating on their president's WAEC certificate as a major pre-election issue when other countries are talking cutting-edge developments. Again, it usually sounds ridiculous to hear APC supporters mention “federal might” only when talking about election and quick to point at states like Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, etc, but cannot talk of federal might in terms of visible developmental strides in states. This level of complicity portends disaster for Akwa Ibom.

Ahead of 2019, the deciding factor in the Akwa Ibom governorship race will not be the much touted APC federal might, but the reasonability of Akwa Ibom people. I often wear that “is this for real?” look whenever I hear someone say “APC is taking over Akwa Ibom in 2019”, yet cannot give any valid reason except, “Udom must go”. On what grounds exactly is APC going to take over Akwa Ibom? Is it because the APC led federal government has solved all the problems in Nigeria since assuming power in 2015? Or may be, because APC states (like the ones illustrated above) have fared better than Akwa Ibom? Have we deeply considered the overall implications of handing over the state to a party that could not conduct a common primary election without violence, bloodshed and deaths?

Another red flag is the wild-goose chase for oil the North by the APC led federal government. The desperation is very indicative of how recklessly they will plunder any of the leading oil-rich states in their grip. Governor Nyesom Wike and his people have 'raised up a standard' against APC in Rivers state, which leaves them with Akwa Ibom as the only viable option. Considering the unscrupulous elements leading the APC in the state, it is safe to say that the party is the Biblical thief that comes to steal, to kill and to destroy, but only that this thief is coming in broad daylight and not at night. In 2019, Akwa Ibom people must fiercely defend the interest of the state and safe her from the impending apocalypse called APC.

My two cents; Governor Udom Emmanuel is the saving grace.
