"I would have filed for divorce long ago if there was ever a legal marriage between us. We were never married in any court of law, and no documents were signed. Leave me alone, Ned. Marriage is not by force. Love is not by force. Stop trying to control what no longer belongs to you!" – Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has declared her intention to take legal action against her estranged husband, Ned Nwoko, following his recent statements online.

NBA Offers Free Legal Aid to Nigerians hara§§ed by Police officers Over Tinted Glass Permits

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has pledged free legal support to Nigerians hara§§ed by the police over the controversial tinted glass permit, describing the policy as “illegal” and revenue-driven.

In a statement, Olukunle Edun (SAN), Chairman of the NBA’s Public Interest Litigation Committee, said, “We shall invoke the powers of the court to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force does not trample on the rights of Nigerians. Any citizen hara§§ed in the purported enforcement of the illegal tinted glass permit should contact any NBA branch.”

He added that the Human Rights Committees of the association’s 130 branches are ready to provide pro bono services, warning that the police could extort up to N3bn monthly under the scheme.

The NBA reminded the Inspector General of Police in a letter dated October 2, 2025, that the matter is already before the Federal High Court in Abuja (Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1821/2025). The case challenges the legality of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Decree 1991 and seeks to restrain the police from arrests, hara§§ment, or extortion.

NBA lawyer Godspower Eroga alleged that the police planned to divert proceeds into a private account instead of the Treasury Single Account, arguing the cited law sets no measurable standards for tinting and is incompatible with factory-fitted windows. He also noted that senior officers freely drive SUVs with dark tints.

The NBA insisted the policy amounts to “taxation without legislation,” stressing that the police are not a revenue agency. It condemned the impoundment of Justice O. A. Ogunbowale’s vehicle in Asaba on the first day of enforcement, calling it “an embarrassing and avoidable situation.”
The body lamented that its urgent application for an injunction was not heard due to court vacation, urging judges to act in public interest, “The judiciary’s authority and integrity are best protected

FBI Arrests Nigerian ‘Tech Queen’ Over Multi-Million Dollar U.S. Government Fra¥d

Nigerian programmer Sapphire Egemasi, known online as a “tech queen,” faces over 20 years in prison after the FBI arrested her for allegedly helping defra¥d U.S. government agencies of millions of dollars.

Egemasi was taken into custody in April 2025 in the Bronx, New York, alongside other suspects, including Ghanaian national Samuel Kwadwo Osei, believed to be the leader of the fra¥d ring.

The charges stem from a federal indictment for internet fra¥d and money laundering, with crimes said to have occurred between September 2021 and February 2023.

Court documents allege that Egemasi’s role was to create f+ke U.S. government websites to steal login credentials, which were then used to divert public funds. She also reportedly helped transfer stolen money into accounts controlled by the syndicate.

Investigators say the group rerouted $965,000 and $330,000—both stolen from the city of Kentucky—into accounts at PNC Bank and Bank of America in 2022.

Egemasi, who previously lived in Cambridge, UK, is believed to have met her co-conspirators in Ghana years ago. She later became the syndicate’s tech specialist, operating across the U.S. and Nigeria. To conceal the source of her income, she claimed to have interned at companies like BP, H&M, and Zara.

Known for her flashy online presence, Egemasi often posted photos of expensive trips to countries like Greece and Portugal, presenting a life of success fueled by tech expertise.

She and her co-defendants are currently being held in Lexington, Kentucky, awaiting trial. If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison, steep fines, and possible deportation.

Police sergeant dismissed over N98,000 extortion

Lagos State Police Command has announced the dismissal of Sergeant Ekpo Shimuyere from the Sogunle Division for extorting N98,000 from a young man.

The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed on Wednesday that Shimuyere was dismissed and disrobed by the Provost Department of the command for extorting N98,000 from a young man.

Shimuyere, it was reported, collected the young man’s phone and used a POS operator to transfer N98,000 out of the N100,000 in the young man’s bank account. Hundeyin stated that the policeman’s actions were against the ethics of the profession.

“Police got the complaint from the victim and the officer denied the crime when he was contacted. The command placed him under detention so that he will not tamper with the evidence.

“We wrote to his bank and obtained his statement of account. We were able to trace the money to where the POS operator transferred it before transferring the money to the officer’s account.

“We followed due process to get his account. The victim was invited in the course of investigation, and he testified.

“The POS operator was also invited, and he said the officer requested him to transfer the money from the victim’s account to another one,” Hudenyi added.

Hundeyin stated that Shimuyere was put through an Orderly Room trial in accordance with the law. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, reviewed the trial and approved the punishment of dismissal from the force for the officer with Force No. 461654, attached to the Sogunle Police Division.

Hundeyin warned officers and men against corruption and emphasized that the dismissal was meant to deter others. He also warned that the command would continue to punish police officers who engage in unprofessional conduct.
