President Bola Tinubu has announced the renaming of the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The declaration was made on Thursday during an expanded session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, convened in recognition of Buhari’s contributions to national development.

"Before we take the prayers — in honour of his memory, with this special session of the Federal Executive Council (expanded) — can we adopt the naming of the University of Maiduguri with a new name — Muhammadu Buhari University, Maiduguri," Tinubu said at the close of the meeting.

The decision marks a symbolic tribute to the former Nigerian leader, acknowledging his legacy in public service and nation-building.

The Federal High Court in Lagos has discharged former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose of all charges in the ₦6.9 billion money laundering case filed by the EFCC.
