THE REASON EVERY STUDENT, TEENAGER, OR YOUTH SHOULD BE INDEPENDENT

Independence is a crucial life skill that every young person should strive to develop. It's about taking control of your life, making your own decisions, and being responsible for your actions. Many successful individuals attribute their achievements to the independence they cultivated at a young age. Let's explore some inspiring stories and quotes from renowned men and women who started their journeys early.

Why Independence Matters...

Independence is essential for personal growth, self-discovery, and success. When you're independent, you're more likely to:

- Develop problem-solving skills and think critically
- Build confidence and self-reliance
- Take calculated risks and pursue your passions
- Learn from failures and adapt to challenges

Inspirational Stories of Some Young Achievers that will really help you...

> "The biggest risk is not taking any risk... In a world that's changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks." - Mark Zuckerberg
- Malala Yousafzai: Nobel laureate and education activist, Malala started advocating for girls' education at 11. Her independence and courage led her to become a global symbol of hope and resilience.

- Richard Branson: Founder of Virgin Group, Richard Branson started his first business at 16. His entrepreneurial spirit and independence led him to build a diverse business empire.
> "Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again." - Richard Branson

Why I'm Writing This...

I, Emmanuel E. Godson, am writing this to help every young person understand the value of independence. I became independent as a child right from my primary school days. I grew up as an orphan without the help of anyone, just myself and my younger siblings. My mom who was supposed to be with us and take care of us died when I was in primary six, before my common entrance examination. As a young boy, I started hustling to pay house rent, feed and provide for my younger ones. At a point in my life, I dropped from school so that my younger siblings can continue with their studies because the bills were so much on me. I didn't have the opportunity to grow up with the experience of parental love and care. I didn't have the opportunity to enjoy friendships and do what my mates were doing. I didn't have a girlfriend throughout, I didn't experience any form of relationship. I was a bus conductor from my primary school till secondary school. And also, there is nothing I didn't hawk including pure water, buns, sweets and chewing gum, soft drink, food, already made clothes, shoes and bags, etc. I grew up hustling in the streets of Aba, Onitsha, Port Harcourt, Asaba, Abuja, etc., before I was able to leave Nigeria the first time I traveled abroad. Yes, my growing up wasn't fun, but it has contributed to making me the man I am today. As I am right now, no amount of responsibility can scare me because of my past experiences in life.

I believe that by embracing independence, young people can unlock their full potential, develop essential life skills, and achieve their goals. Whether it's through starting a small business, learning a new skill, or simply taking responsibility for your actions, independence is key to success.

In conclusion, independence is a vital life skill that can help young people achieve their dreams and make a positive impact in the world. By learning from the stories of successful individuals who started their journeys early, we can see the power of independence in action. Let's encourage every student, teenager, and youth to embrace independence and strive for greatness.

Achieving Success and Attaining Greatness in Life:
A Comprehensive Success Guide for Young People
By Pastor Emmanuel E. Godson

Introduction:

As a young person, you are at the threshold of a remarkable journey. The path to success and greatness is not an easy one, but with determination, hard work, and the right mindset, you can achieve your dreams and leave a lasting legacy. In this success guide, we will explore the essential qualities, habits, and principles that can help you fulfill your purpose and attain greatness in life.

1. Vision and Purpose: Having a clear vision and purpose is the foundation of success. It gives you direction, focus, and motivation. As the Bible says, "Where there is no vision, the people perish" (Proverbs 29:18). Identify your passions, values, and strengths to discover your purpose.

Example: Nelson Mandela's vision for a united and equal South Africa drove him to fight against apartheid, even in the face of adversity.

2. Hard Work and Discipline: Success requires effort and perseverance. As the saying goes, "There is no substitute for hard work." Develop a strong work ethic, set goals, and create a schedule to achieve them.

Example: Thomas Edison's famous quote, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration," highlights the importance of hard work in achieving success.

3. Resilience and Adaptability: Life is full of challenges and setbacks. Learning to bounce back and adapt to new situations is crucial. As the Bible says, "A righteous man falls seven times, and rises again" (Proverbs 24:16).

Example: J.K. Rowling's journey to becoming a bestselling author was marked by rejection and poverty. However, she persevered and adapted, eventually achieving immense success.

4. Self-Development and Learning: Continuous learning and self-improvement are essential for growth and success. As the saying goes, "Knowledge is power."

Example: Bill Gates' commitment to reading and learning has been instrumental in his success. He reads extensively and has even taken online courses to improve his skills.

5. Positive Mindset and Attitude: A positive mindset and attitude can help you overcome obstacles and stay motivated. As the Bible says, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7).

Example: Stephen Hawking's positive attitude and determination despite his physical limitations inspired millions around the world.

6. Networking and Relationships: Building strong relationships and networking can open doors to new opportunities and provide valuable support. As the saying goes, "Your network is your net worth."

Example: Oprah Winfrey's ability to connect with people and build meaningful relationships has been key to her success in the entertainment industry.

7. Integrity and Character: Developing strong integrity and character is essential for building trust and respect. As the Bible says, "The integrity of the upright guides them" (Proverbs 11:3).

Example: Malala Yousafzai's courage and integrity in standing up for girls' education have inspired a global movement.

8. Gratitude and Humility: Practicing gratitude and humility can help you stay grounded and focused on your goals. As the Bible says, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18).

Example: Richard Branson's humility and willingness to learn from his mistakes have contributed to his success as a entrepreneur.

As I Conclude, Take Note:

Achieving success and greatness in life requires a combination of vision, hard work, resilience, self-development, positive mindset, networking, integrity, and gratitude. Remember that success is a journey, not a destination. Stay focused, motivated, and committed to your goals, and you will be well on your way to fulfilling your purpose and leaving a lasting legacy.
