AKWA IBOM MCPDP TRAINING UPDATE
During the ongoing Mandatory Continuous Professional Development Program (MCPDP) training for Community Health Practitioners in Akwa Ibom State, a critical emergency care topic was addressed—how to properly respond when a child or adult is choking while eating.
Many people, out of panic, often rush to give water to someone who is choking, thinking it will help. However, this approach can make the situation worse.
In a practical demonstration session, the specialist trainer took time to teach and demonstrate the correct first aid response for choking—a life-saving skill that every primary health care worker and community member should know.
This session emphasized hands-on techniques that can be applied both in health facilities and in community settings to save lives during such emergencies.
