BEING A CHRISTMAS DAY MESSAGE BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PASTOR UMO ENO, PhD, GOVERNOR, AKWA IBOM STATE, GOVERNMENT HOUSE, UYO, DECEMBER 25, 2024.

1.Today, we join millions of Christian adherents to celebrate Christmas which signifies the birth of the Prince of Peace and Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ.

2.Christmas is a season of love, of giving and of unity. It is a period where we should redouble our efforts in looking out for the vulnerable and the downtrodden and inspire in them a spirit of hope and faith that, just as our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was born in a manger, their circumstance today may change, and they too, can be leaders of tomorrow.

3.Let me thank you my dear people for the prayers and support you have given us in the last eighteen months as we work to deepen the growth and prosperity of our dear State. We have been humbled greatly by what we have collectively achieved across sectors, and as we get ready to usher in the New Year, we will continue to roll our sleeves and work harder to ensure we produce enough food to feed our people, extend more development to the rural areas, expand our infrastructure, ensure our State remains an oasis of peace and tranquility and get our children to remain focused in their educational pursuits, so they may compete with their peers all over the world, in the spirit of our Arise Agenda.
4.We will continue to focus on the needs of our people, while challenging them to Arise and flourish through the creative application of the talents and creativity God has embedded in us all.

5.We have already paid the 13 month salary popularly known as โ€˜Eno-mberโ€™. Together, with the Organized Labour, work on the verification exercise of actual number of public service employees is ongoing and we hope the process will end very soon so we may commence the payment of the 80 thousand Naira minimum wage we have agreed on.

6.To bring Christmas cheers to every corner and cranny of this blessed State, we have released 20 bags of rice to be given to each of the 2, 272 gazetted villages in the State. This is a season of glad tidings and we are hopeful that other stakeholders all over the 368 wards will complement the efforts of government to touch the lives of the people in their respective communities.

7. Our State is peaceful, safe and secure, and I urge our great and resourceful youths to help maintain this status during the Yuletide. I enjoin them to shun anti-social tendencies or acts capable of disturbing public peace.

8.Let us wear our unity and love as badges of honour and continue to celebrate our bonds of kindredship, which, thankfully, is currently in full display at the Christmas Unplugged 2024 edition. I am aware of the extraordinary cultural display and renaissance currently on going at the Christmas Village and the thousands of visitors that are trooping in daily. This is who and what we are all about- the spirit of Akwa Ibom: Happy, industrious, united, creative and God โ€“fearing people, bound by shared aspirations, hopes and dreams.

9.As we celebrate Christmas today, may this spirit of unity and oneness lead us safely and triumphantly into the New Year.

10.I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New year in advance!
God bless us all!

Money Laundering: EFCC Arraigns Businessman, Akindele Akintoye for $35m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, December 24, 2024, arraigned a businessman, Akindele Akintoye before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on charges bordering on money laundering and contract fraud.

Akintoye allegedly collected $35million from the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board to build a 2000 barrel- per -day refinery, jetty, gas plant, data centre, and tank farm at Brass Free Trade Zone, Okpoama community in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

He allegedly mooted the idea of the project to the Board and the NCDMB embraced it with a counterpart funding to the tune of $35million. He allegedly received the funds through the bank account of Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited and funneled the funds into four of his companies: Platform Capital Investment Partners, Duport Midstream Company Ltd., Puisance Afrique Dynamics Ltd., Adamantine Petrochemical & Refinery Ltd and Bureau de Change outlets
At the court sitting on Monday, EFCC counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, told the court that the defendant faced a four-count charge filed on November 19, 2024, and requested that the charges be read to the defendant.

One of the counts read: "That you, Akindele Akintoye, and Platform Capital Investment Partners Limited, between December 2020 and February 2021, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, indirectly retained the sum of $16,006,000 (Sixteen Million, Six Thousand United States Dollars), being part of the funds dishonestly converted from the money paid by the NCDMB to Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited as investment, knowing the said sum constituted proceeds of unlawful activity, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 15(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended by Act No. 1 of 2012) and punishable under Section 15(3) of the same Act."

The defendant pleaded โ€œnot guiltyโ€ after the charges were read to him.
In view of his โ€œnot guiltyโ€ plea, Iheanacho requested the court to remand Akintoye in a Correctional Centre and sought a trial date.

However, counsel to the defendant, Emmanuel Esadio, applied for bail, stating that the application was filed and served on the prosecution.

Justice Nwite, in his response, emphasized the importance of allowing the prosecution to respond to the bail application, noting that the law requires a 48-hour period before a bail application can be considered.

โ€œJustice is tripartite, to the accused, the defendant, and society. I cannot shut out the prosecution, they must be heard,โ€ the Judge said.

Esadio further requested that the defendant be remanded in EFCC custody, citing his clientโ€™s health issues and the need for easy access to legal counsel.

But Iheanacho opposed the request, arguing that the EFCC lacked adequate facilities and that Akintoye had demonstrated untrustworthiness, including allegedly retrieving his international passport after claiming it was in court custody.

โ€œThe defendant cannot be trusted. He has shown tendencies that suggest he may commit another crime. Additionally, there is no medical evidence before the court to support claims of ill health,โ€ Iheanacho submitted.

After considering the arguments, Justice Nwite ordered Akintoyeโ€™s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter till December 31, 2024, for hearing on the bail application.

Celebrating Excellence: Governor Umo Eno Wins Governor of the Year 2024 Award

Aniekan Ekah

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has been named Governor of the Year 2024 by Leadership Newspapers. This prestigious award is a clear recognition of his outstanding leadership, vision, and commitment to transforming Akwa Ibom into a state of opportunities and progress for its citizens.

Since his emergence as governor, Pastor Umo Eno has been guided by his ARISE Agenda, which focuses on key areas of development: Agricultural Revolution, Rural Development, Infrastructure Renewal, Security, and Education. His administrationโ€™s remarkable achievements in these areas have not only improved the lives of Akwa Ibom people but have also set the state apart as a model of good governance.

One of the governorโ€™s major accomplishments is in the area of agriculture. Pastor Umo Eno has prioritized food security by revitalizing the agricultural sector. His administration has provided resources, training, and support to farmers, resulting in increased food production. Today, Akwa Ibom is on the path to becoming a major food-producing state in Nigeria.

Infrastructure development is another area where the governor has made a significant impact. Roads, schools, and healthcare facilities have been renovated and upgraded. The construction of rural roads, in particular, has connected previously isolated communities to urban centers, boosting trade and commerce across the state.

Pastor Umo Eno has also demonstrated his commitment to reducing unemployment through job creation and youth empowerment programs. Thousands of young people in Akwa Ibom have been trained in various skills and provided with start-up grants to launch their businesses. These initiatives have not only empowered the youth but have also contributed to the economic growth of the state.

In terms of security, the governor has ensured that Akwa Ibom remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. This atmosphere of peace and stability has made the state attractive to investors and tourists. It has also fostered a sense of safety and unity among the people.

Local businesses have received tremendous support under the leadership of Pastor Umo Eno. His administration has implemented policies to promote small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by offering financial assistance, training, and access to larger markets. These efforts have boosted local entrepreneurship and strengthened the economy of the state.

When compared with other states, the achievements of Pastor Umo Enoโ€™s administration stand out. While some states struggle with issues such as insecurity, delayed payment of salaries, and stalled development projects, Akwa Ibom has remained a model state for progress and good governance. For example, while other states have neglected rural infrastructure, Pastor Umo Eno has made it a priority to ensure that even the most remote communities have access to good roads and basic amenities.

The governorโ€™s administration has also been praised for its transparency and prudent management of state resources. Unlike in many other states where financial mismanagement hampers development, Akwa Ibom has consistently demonstrated accountability and efficient use of funds.

Looking ahead to 2025, Pastor Umo Enoโ€™s administration promises even greater achievements for Akwa Ibom. There are plans to expand industrialization and attract more investors to the state. These efforts will create more job opportunities and stimulate economic growth.

Education, technology, and innovation will also take center stage as the governor works to position Akwa Ibom as a hub for knowledge and creativity. These initiatives will ensure that the state remains competitive in a rapidly changing world.

In addition, the administrationโ€™s ongoing projects in rural development, healthcare, and social welfare are expected to yield even more positive results in the coming year. These efforts will further improve the standard of living for all Akwa Ibom people.

As we celebrate Pastor Umo Enoโ€™s well-deserved recognition as Governor of the Year 2024, it is evident that his leadership has brought significant progress to Akwa Ibom. His focus on the welfare of the people, infrastructure development, and economic growth has laid a solid foundation for an even brighter future.

Congratulations to Pastor Umo Eno on this remarkable achievement! The people of Akwa Ibom are proud of your leadership and look forward to even greater successes in 2025.

Etiquette: 8 Things You Shouldn't Do While Using Public Transportation

Riding a public bus is a shared experience, but maintaining harmony requires understanding what not to do to keep the journey pleasant for everyone. As you travel home for Christmas, kindly take note of these important points:

1. Loud Conversations:
Avoid shouting or having loud conversations, whether on the phone or with a fellow passenger. Keep your voice low to maintain a peaceful environment. I once boarded a bus with a lady who chatted so loudly from Akwa Ibom to Anambra. Inua ekpad, emedi o!

2. Playing Music Without Headphones:
Do not play music or videos aloud. Always use headphones to avoid disturbing others. Donโ€™t whistle loudly eitherโ€”youโ€™re not the chief priest of your village. Even if you are, maintain decorum inside public transport.

3. Eating Strong-Smelling Foods:
For those who canโ€™t travel without snackingโ€”eggs, dry meat, plantain chips, ogba, moi-moi, sausage rolls, and soft drinksโ€”take note of this! Eating food with strong odors can make others uncomfortable. Stick to light snacks or wait until youโ€™re off the bus. Ndito cigar, be warned too!

4. Disrespecting Fellow Passengers:
Avoid behaviors like staring, invading personal space, or being rude to other passengers. Always be courteous and respectful.

5. Littering:
Do not leave trash behind. Use bins provided on the bus, or carry your waste until you can dispose of it properly. Don't throw things out of the window.

6. Inappropriate Grooming:
Avoid activities like clipping nails, brushing hair, or applying makeup that can make others uncomfortable.

7. Leaning on Others:
If the bus is crowded, be mindful not to lean on other passengers or invade their personal space, even accidentally.

8. Take Personal Hygiene Seriously:
Mbok, I beg you in God's name, clean up before you use public transportation. Use deodorant, Cologne, body spray, brush up, where necessary. Don't make life harder for other passengers with your pungent ntafiรณng-ish body odour. Let the poor breathe!

If I've forgotten to add something to this list, please do so in the comments section.

Respect for others ensures a pleasant experience for everyone on public transportation. Safe travels and enjoy your holiday season!

Pyramid Lounge CEO Lauds Governor Umo Eno over Traffic Light Restoration

Mrs. Ekamma Udoh, the CEO of Pyramid Lounge, has praised Governor Umo Eno for his recent efforts in restoring the Udo Udoma Traffic Light, a key project that has enhanced road safety in the state.

Speaking about the development, Ekamma expressed her appreciation for Governor Umo Eno's commitment to improving infrastructure and the quality of life for Akwa Ibom people. She said, "The restoration of the Udo Udoma Traffic Light is a significant step forward in making Uyo safer for all its residents. As a business owner, I know how important it is to ensure that we have smooth and secure access to roads, especially during the busy festive season."

She went on to highlight the positive impact of the project on her business. "With the traffic light in place, we have seen a reduction in accidents and improved traffic flow, which benefits everyone, from drivers to pedestrians. This is a clear sign of the governorโ€™s dedication to our wellbeing," she added.

"Thanks to these improvements, I no longer have to worry about the safety of my workers and customers when they leave late from work. Itโ€™s truly commendable," Udoh said.

She also took the opportunity to commend other projects initiated by the Governor, especially the fencing of the Ibom Unity Park, which she believes have made the area safer, particularly during late hours.

In addition to the improvements in safety, Udoh also called for the revival of the movie theater culture in the state, specifically requesting the reopening of Tropicana and Silverbird cinemas. โ€œWhat is Christmas without a movie theater? Itโ€™s been a long time since weโ€™ve had the joy of watching blockbuster movies right here in Akwa Ibom. I am begging the state government to look into this. We need those big screens back!โ€ she expressed.

Udoh concluded her message with a heartfelt plea, โ€œGovernor Umo Eno, we trust you to continue leading with excellence. Please, help us bring back the joy of cinema to Akwa Ibom. We are grateful for all you do, especially for the safety improvements. May God continue to bless and strengthen you.โ€

Governor Umo Enoโ€™s continued dedication to Akwa Ibomโ€™s development has garnered praise from various sectors of the community, and Udohโ€™s statement is a reflection of the positive impact his leadership is having in the state.
