Among the Efik, Ibibio, and Oron peoples, Nnabo was and still is a system of power that shaped law, warfare, and spirituality for centuries.

Nsibidi Nnabo enforced the law under the Obong (king). The mask was judge. The mask was verdict.

Today aa they are no longer warriors. But Nnabo still appears at coronations, burials, festivals. Reminding us of our collective heritage.

Ntanta Afiọn̄ (noun)

Pronunciation: /ntàn-tà á-fi-ɔ́n/

Meaning:
A term in the Ibibio language that refers to both a star (a luminous celestial body visible in the night sky) and a firefly (a small bioluminescent insect). The word embodies the shared quality of both objects, their ability to emit light in darkness.

Ndidia (noun)
Pronunciation: /ndídìà/
Meaning: Food; anything eaten for nourishment or sustenance.

Language: Ibibio, also used in
Annang dialects with slight tonal differences.

In Efik, ndidia is referred to as udia, meaning “food.”
However, in Ibibio, udia specifically refers to yam and other tuber plants, while ndidia retains the general meaning of “food.”

Beyond its literal meaning, ndidia represents community, generosity, and kinship. In Ibibio culture, to “share ndidia” means more than sharing a meal, it’s an act of love, peace, and unity that binds families and friendships together.
