Judge: From the records before this court, I see that you have been in detention since 2024. Tell the court what actually happened.
Otuocha: My Lord, he called me that day and promised to give me ₦100,000 if I agreed to lodge in a hótel with him. I agreed.
Judge: Go on.
Otuocha: After we checked into the hotel, we began to mekweta. Before God, my Lord, I only told him to go hàrder. In the process, he suddenly slûmped. I thought he was just exhaûsted, but when he did not respond, I wrapped him with a towel, ran to the reception, and informed the hotel management. They came, confirmed that he was déàd, and called the police. That was how I was àrrésted. The police said I kpaied him, but my Lord, I did not.
Judge: After your àrrést, did you contact a lawyer?
Otuocha: No, my Lord. I did not have money for a lawyer. If I had money, I would not have agreed to go to the hotel in the first place. I needed the money to take care of my sîck mother. Sàdly, she passed away last month while I was still in detèntiôn.
Judge: I am sorry about the déàth of your mother. In view of the circumstances, this court will grant accelerated hearing in this matter.
Judge: Matter adjourned to tomorrow for the prosecûtioπ to open its càse and present evidence.
All in Court: As the Court pleases.
