A member of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Gagdi, has strongly opposed the Federal Government’s rehabilitation of former Boko Haram members and other violent criminals.

Speaking on Saturday, Gagdi argued that anyone who deliberately takes another person’s life should face the death penalty, not rehabilitation.

According to him, it is unjust to spend taxpayers’ money rehabilitating people accused of killing the same citizens who fund the government through their taxes.

He also claimed that some security operatives no longer trust certain rehabilitated ex-insurgents, alleging that some have leaked operational information to criminal groups, resulting in attacks on security personnel.

“If we had been executing those who kill, it would have reduced the problem to the barest minimum,” Gagdi said, insisting that rehabilitation sends the wrong message and fails to deter violent crime.

# PROSECUTION OF ILLEGAL LAND SELLERS: Udu Council To Prosecute Illegal Land Sellers, Bans Collection of 'Deve' Fees

The Executive Council (EXCO) of Udu Local Government Council has resolved to clamp down on illegal land sales, land grabbing and the unlawful collection of development levies, popularly known as "Deve," across communities in the local government area.

The resolutions were reached during the EXCO meeting held yesterday Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Udu Local Government Council Secretariat, Otor-Udu, and presided over by the Executive Chairman of the Council, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP, FCIA.

Addressing the media after the meeting, the Chairman said the Council was deeply concerned over the increasing number of petitions from communities involving land grabbing and unauthorized sales of community land.

He warned that anyone found engaging in the illegal sale of land would be arrested, prosecuted and upon conviction, face the full weight of the law.

According to him, no community president has the authority to sell community land without the consent of the entire community.

He explained that any proposed sale of community land must be preceded by a town hall meeting where members of the community collectively agree to the transaction.

The Udu Council Boss, Oyibode further stated that any community president who disregards this process would be removed from office and prosecuted for acts capable of causing communal crisis.

The Council also reaffirmed the Delta State Government's prohibition of the collection of development levies, popularly called "Deve," in communities.

The Chairman directed all security agencies to enforce the ban, stressing that anyone found demanding or collecting such levies would be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of Delta State.

He specifically warned community Presidents and youth leaders to desist from collecting any form of "Deve" or illegal family payments from individuals or developers, describing such practices as unlawful and unacceptable.

While noting that communities are free to engage in legitimate business activities, Oyibode emphasized that no individual or group should impose illegal levies under any guise.

He urged residents to report offenders to the appropriate authorities, assuring that the Council would ensure that every complaint is thoroughly investigated and that offenders are brought to justice.

The Executive Chairman said the resolutions form part of the Council's commitment to maintaining peace, protecting community interests, and ensuring strict compliance with the laws of Delta State.

TERROR CRACKDOWN: FG ORDER BANKS TO SEIZE ASSET OF TERRORISM FINANCERS AS US SANCTION NIGERIA, LINK TO ISIS FUNDING.
The Federal Government has directed banks, financial institutions and designated non-financial businesses to immediately comply with sanctions obligations, including freezing the assets of individuals and organisations linked to terrorism financing.

The directive follows U.S. sanctions against Nigerian businessman Mukhtar Adamu Muhammad and three Bureau De Change firms — Generation Currency BDC Limited, Nine to Nine Exchange BDC Limited and Manhattan BDC Limited — over alleged involvement in moving funds for ISIS. Nigerian authorities had earlier added Mukhtar and several others, including six individuals and a BDC company, to the national sanctions list.

The Nigerian Sanctions Committee said intelligence and financial investigations linked the sanctioned individuals and entities to financing and supporting ISWAP and other terrorist networks. The government reaffirmed that terrorists and their financiers will find no safe haven within Nigeria’s financial system and urged institutions to fully comply with asset-freezing measures, suspicious transaction reporting requirements and other anti-terrorism financing regulations.

The committee also praised the Ministry of Justice, Office of the National Security Adviser, CBN, DSS, EFCC and NFIU for their roles in disrupting terrorist funding networks and pledged continued collaboration with local and international partners to strengthen national security and financial integrity.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, said Nigerian forces, working closely with allies including the United States, United Kingdom and France, have significantly weakened ISIS, Boko Haram and other terrorist groups through sustained military and intelligence operations. He stated that key commanders, logistics networks and arms supply channels have been disrupted, adding that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and maintaining stability across the country.
