ITSEKIRI YOUTH FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE (IYGG) CONDEMNS THE ATTACK ON INNOCENT ITSEKIRI YOUTHS BY INEC-SPONSORED MILITANTS FROM THE NIGER DELTA: INEC WORKING WITH MILITANTS TO JUSTIFY THEIR FRAUDULENT DELINEATION

The Itsekiri Youth for Good Governance (IYGG) strongly condemns the violent attack carried out against peaceful and innocent Itsekiri youths who exercised their constitutional right to protest against the fraudulent ward delineation proposal imposed on the Warri Federal Constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It is shocking and disgraceful that a private protest notification letter officially written and sent to Arise News and INEC Nigeria by Itsekiri youths was allegedly leaked by INEC and Arise News officials to Ijaw ex-militants, who subsequently published the letter online and mobilized hoodlums against peaceful Itsekiri protesters.

We ask Nigerians and the international community: Which responsible government institution, private news media or electoral commission releases confidential correspondence from an ethnic youth organization to rival ethnic groups for public circulation and possible violent retaliation?

This disturbing action raises serious questions about the neutrality, integrity, and credibility of INEC in the ongoing Warri ward delineation crisis.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that certain officials within INEC and Arise News are collaborating with militant interests from the Niger Delta to intimidate, suppress, and silence the legitimate concerns of the Itsekiri people over the fraudulent delineation exercise.

We are particularly disturbed by the alleged role being played by Professor Rhoda Gumus, who many believe has abandoned professional neutrality and is allegedly working to protect ethnic interests connected to her affiliations and relationships with ex-militant elements in the region. Public institutions must never be turned into ethnic instruments against indigenous communities.

Furthermore, the conduct of the INEC Chairman has continued to damage public confidence in the electoral body. Till date, INEC has failed to explain or apologize for the shocking inclusion and importation of communities from Edo State, Ondo State, and even Udu Local Government Area, a completely separate federal constituency, into the Warri Federal Constituency delineation proposal.

Such actions are not mere administrative errors; they represent a dangerous and calculated attempt to alter the demographic and political realities of Warri Federal Constituency through fraudulent means.
Rather than correcting these irregularities, INEC appears determined to impose and legitimize this injustice on the Itsekiri people.

The Itsekiri people are peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to democratic principles, but we will continue to resist every attempt to steal our ancestral identity, political rights, and territorial heritage through manipulation and intimidation.

We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, security agencies, civil society organizations, and the international community to immediately investigate the role of INEC officials in this crisis and prevent further escalation capable of threatening peace and stability in the Niger Delta.

Enough is enough.

ICCA CONDEMNS THE REPORTED ATTACK ON PEACEFUL ITSEKIRI YOUTHS PROTESTERS, ITSEKIRIS WILL STAY THE COURSE OF DELINEATION

The Itsekiri Community Comrades Association (ICCA) strongly condemns the reported attack on peaceful Itsekiri youths under the umbrella of Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths (UIY), who were lawfully exercising their democratic rights during a peaceful protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
It is unfortunate and unacceptable that citizens demanding fairness, justice, and equity in a democratic society would allegedly be subjected to intimidation, harassment, and violence. Peaceful protest remains a constitutional right and must never be criminalized.

The Itsekiri people have consistently maintained that the ongoing ward delineation process in Warri Federal Constituency must be carried out with transparency, credibility, and fairness. However, we have noticed glaring, fraudulent irregularities aimed at distorting the political and demographic realities of our region:

Cross-Border Coordinate Fraud: We have uncovered a highly fraudulent act where coordinates from entirely different local government areas and statesโ€”specifically Udu, Ughelli North, Ondo State, and Edo Stateโ€”were deliberately moved into the Warri Federal Constituency to artificially fabricate wards and units for the Ijaws and Urhobos. Despite formal reports lodged by the Itsekiri nation, INEC has stubbornly refused to look into these reports or make the necessary corrections.

The Warri Urban (Warri South) Encroachment: Bringing the Ijaws of Ogbe-Ijaw into Warri Urban (Warri South) is a geopolitical aberration. Historically and administrative-wise, the Ogbe-Ijaw belong in Warri South-West. It is a matter of public record that the Ijaws are already illegally hosting the headquarters of Warri South-West in Ogbe-Ijaw, in flagrant violation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which clearly designates Ogidigben as the rightful headquarters.

Defiance of Judicial Precedent: Courts of competent jurisdiction have repeatedly barred the Ijaws from contesting land ownership in Warri South or Warri Urban. Since they have no legal or historical claims to land in Warri Urban, we ask: on whose land are these new wards being fabricated? You cannot build a structure on a non-existent foundation. INEC cannot arbitrarily take Itsekiri ancestral lands to allocate wards to groups with no land ownership rights in the area.

Deliberate Marginalization of Large Itsekiri Communities: While INEC is busy using single streets to miraculously create standalone wards for the Ijaws and Urhobos in Warri South, it has consistently and unfairly merged major, massive Itsekiri communities together to artificially diminish our numerical strength. Prominent, expansive Itsekiri communities like Obodo, Ubeji, Omadino, Ifie, Ijala, and Ugbuwangwe, among others, are more than large enough to stand as independent wards on their own.

INEC must remain committed to its constitutional responsibility of electoral delineation and not drift into the responsibilities of a population census body through actions capable of distorting historical realities, demographic balance, and the political identity of indigenous peoples.

The Itsekiri Nation has always stood for peace, coexistence, and democratic engagement, but peace must be built on justice and fairness. Any attempt to marginalize, suppress, or gerrymander away the legitimate rights and ancestral identity of the Itsekiri people will only create avoidable tensions capable of threatening the fragile peace in the Niger Delta.

We therefore call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, and all defenders of democracy to intervene immediately. INEC must be compelled to correct these fraudulent coordinates, respect judicial precedents on land ownership, and ensure that the delineation process is fair, inclusive, and acceptable to all critical stakeholders.

The Itsekiri Community Comrades Association stands firmly with all peaceful protesters and assures the Itsekiri people that we shall remain united, vigilant, and resolute in defending our heritage, political rights, and identity through lawful and constitutional means.
The Itsekiri people will stay the course.

Comr Oritseneye Fredrick I, Chairman

Comr. Esimaje Richard Ejueyitsi,
Secretary
