PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES THREE NIGERIAN STUDENTS FOR EXCELLING AT 2025 TEENEAGLE
GLOBAL COMPETITION

President Bola Tinubu congratulates Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu, Rukayya Muhammad Fema, and Hadiza Kashim Kalli on emerging world champions in English language communication skills and debate at the 2025 TeenEagle Global competition in London, United Kingdom.

Seventeen-year-old Nafisa was named the overall best in English language skills; 15-year-old Rukayya emerged as the overall best in debate, while Hadiza clinched the outstanding talent award (gold medal).
A statement by Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President, Information & Strategy, I dicates that
President Tinubu commends these exceptional young Nigerians for the feat and affirms that the nation's future is much brighter with many of its youth as repositories of excellence.

It adds, the President also commends the institutions of learning and states that these accomplishments are a testament to the quality and potential of Nigeria's education system as a nurturer of some of the world's brightest minds.

President Tinubu believes that education is a critical element for national development; hence, his administration's significant investment in the sector and the removal of financial barriers for indigent Nigerians seeking higher education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

The President encourages Nafisa, Rukayya, and Hadiza to remain steadfast in their studies and wishes them continued success.

What you should know about CGPA and how to calculate it on a 5.00 Grading system:
5 = A
4 = B
3 = C
2 = D
1 = E
0 = F........................
1. 70-100 = A
2. 60-69 = B
3. 50-59 = C
4. 45-49 = D
5. 40-44 = E
6. 0-39 = F........................
So:
1. 4.50 - 5.00 = First Class
2. 3.50 - 4.49 = 2nd Class Upper
3. 2.40 - 3.49 = 2nd Class Lower
4. 1.50 - 2.39 = 3rd Class
5. 1.0 - 1.49 = Pass
6. 0.0 - 0.99 = Fail............................................
WHAT IS CGPA & GPA??
CGPA - Cumulative Grade Point Average. (This is what you have after both 1st and 2nd semester .... In summation and Division, amounting to it)
GPA - Grade Point Average ( This is what you have after every semester)
C.U - Credit Units
TCU - Total Credit Unit
G.P - Grade Point
TGP or TQP - Total Grade Point or Quality Point

Thus;
GPA ..... This is derived by dividing the Total Grade/Quality point (TQP/TGP) by the Total Credit unit (TCU) for that semester.

For example:
If in a semester, a student earned 90 quality points for 21 credit units, the GPA will be;
GPA = TGP/TCU
90/21
= 4.28

HOW TO CALCULATE CGPA:
CGPA is derived by adding the Total Quality Points (TQP) for all the semesters to date and dividing by the Total Credit Units to date for all semester... 1st & 2nd.

For example:
If in a semester a student earns a QP of 90 for 21 CU in the first semester and earns a QP of 87 for 20 CU in the second semester, His/Her CGPA will be ;
CGPA = TQP/TCU
= (90+87) / (21+20)
= 177 / 41
= 4.31
Therefore, your CGPA for that session will be,
CGPA = 4.31
............................................
Breaking it Down:

√ Let's Consider a 1st Semester Result as shown below;
S/n Units. Grade G.P
1. 3 × (A) 5 = 15
2. 2 × (B) 4 = 8
3. 2 × (A) 5 = 10
4. 3 × (A) 5 = 15
5. 3 × (C) 3 = 9
6. 3 × (D) 2 = 6
7. 2 × (E) 1. = 2

TCU. TGP
=18 = 65
Therefore;
GPA = TGP/TCU
= 65/18
= 3.61

√√ Let us now consider 2nd Semester Result.
NB: We'd carry out same procedure in 1st semester then apply here.
But let's assume our TCU & TGP to be = 20 and = 93 respectively.

GPA for second semester GPA = TGP/TCU
93/20
= 4.65

If you’re still pursuing your undergraduate degree, please take it seriously. Work hard to have good grades.

Graduating with a 2:2 or Third Class does not guarantee that your future will be full of misfortune or that you will never make it in life. No, that’s not correct. Your destiny, your future is in the Hands of Allah alone. He shapes everyone’s destiny, whether a First Class graduate or a Pass Degree graduate.

However, have at least a 2:1 or a First Class if possible. These two classes of degree are the default filters which potential employers and scholarship awarding organizations use to pick candidates from a pool of applicants. Some even tell you right from application stage that you should have at least a 2:1.

The other day, I was conversing with a year-ahead senior of mine from Engineering school. He finished from Chemical Engineering. He told me that among all the First Class and 2:1s who graduated in their set, he cannot remember someone who is not gainfully employed or at least not pursuing a decent postgraduate education under some good scholarship scheme. He thought over it, and said, he means it. He can’t recall any. And they graduated about 10 years ago.

If in less than 10 years, virtually all the (at least) good degrees are gainfully employed or have something doing, then Allah be praised. It means a good degree is still reliable. And I think anyone who is still in school should strive to have one. It is different if you do not end up making it. At least you tried to, but destiny was not on that side. But do not have this impression of good grades don’t really mean much. They actually mean so much.

Job applications usually request you to fill in your school certificates along with your class of degree. They seldom ask you about your skills. The reason is, employers mostly hire you and then teach you the job that they need you to do for them. You learn on the job, then you scale up, you develop yourself and earn your ink in the industry..
