Breaking! Court Remands Sowore & Four Comrades in Kuje Prison for Another 24 Hours

Following a mild drama that ensued in courtroom at Wuse, Abuja this morning with Sowore rejecting a strange lawyer that was being foisted by FCT Police prosecutor to represent the defendants upon their abrupt arraignment, the Magistrate has ordered their remand in Kuje Prison for another 24hours.

Although Sowore’s lawyer, Mr. Abubakar Marshal of the Femi Falana Chambers who learned of the abrupt arraignment had now arrived before the magistrate read her ruling, she proceeded to agreeing that the defendants are entitled to bail but are to be remanded for another 24hours to enable their lawyer make his application for bail ‘written’.

Although the judge, Taiye Mabel ruled that Sowore could represent himself even without a lawyer, she eventually refused him bail which was verbally applied for, by his lawyer.

Marshal offered to stand for the defendants and present them whenever needed by court, but the judge, Taiye Mabel insists they must first go to remand and their lawyer to return in 24hours with a written application for their bail.

Three-counts were read to the five defendants as follows; Unlawful Assembly, Criminal Conspiracy and Inciting Public Disturbance.

Sowore and the four promptly responded ‘false’ to all three counts.

They have now been ordered to Kuje Prison ahead of tomorrow, when the judge says she would be present by 11am to rule on their written application for bail.
