If you're interested in a caregiver course with a certificate at the end let me know in the comments section.
Caregivers and caretakers both provide support, but caregivers focus on fostering independence and well-being, while caretakers may focus more on simply providing assistance with daily tasks. Key caregiver traits include empathy, patience, strong communication, and the ability to encourage self-reliance. Caretakers, while also providing support, may sometimes foster dependency, whereas caregivers aim to empower the individual they are caring for.
Key Traits of a Caregiver:
Empathy and Compassion:
Caregivers try to share the feelings of the person they are caring for, thereby providing support for them
Patience:
Patience allows caregivers to remain calm and understanding.
Active Listening:
Caregivers listen attentively to the needs and concerns of the person they are caring for, make sure they are heard and understood.
Reliability:
While providing support is important, they also build trust with the persons they're caring for and let's the person confide more.
Respect for Autonomy:
Caregivers respect the individual's right to make their own decisions and encourage independence as much as possible.
Strong Communication Skills:
Caregivers effectively communicate with the person they are caring for, their family, and other healthcare professionals.
Self-care: caregivers ought to prioritize their self first, take care of themselves because it's that same care they would give out.
