Bayelsa, Nigeria

A Magistrate Court in Yenagoa on Wednesday 10th September, 2025
ordered that Mr. Aye O.S. Egberi, head of the social-media team of the Bayelsa chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), be remanded at the Okaka Medium Correctional Centre for 30 days pending further investigation.

Egberi was arraigned on allegations that he published malicious and defamatory posts accusing the State Commissioner of Police and the Governor of Bayelsa of masterminding the July abduction of a State High Court judge, Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro in posts circulated on Facebook and other social platforms.

Police told the court that Egberi was arrested by operatives of Operation Puff Adder after a formal complaint and on the instruction of the State Commissioner of Police to explain the origin of the allegations.

At the hearing in Magistrate Court 14, the prosecution, led by Japhet O. J. Japhet, asked the court to remand Egberi on grounds that his online posts ridiculed and targeted the governor, the police commissioner and other senior officers, and posed a threat to public order and their personal safety.

The police argued that the alleged conduct falls within the scope of cyber-bullying and cyber-stalking under Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention) Act, 2015 (as amended 2024), an offence they said is triable at the Federal High Court and attracts penalties of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and fines on conviction.

The prosecution however said it would await advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before any arraignment at the High Court.

Magistrate Stanley Ekeru approved the remand and directed that Egberi remain in custody at the Okaka Medium Correctional Prison while the police conclude their investigation and obtain further legal advice.

A baby has been born at a hospital in Rajasthan, Northwestern India, with 14 fingers and 12 toes.

The baby girl has seven fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. While doctors have described her condition as a genetic anomaly, her family are reportedly delighted and have publicly called her the reborn version of Dholagarh Devi, a well-known local deity whose temple is near where the girl was born.

A medic at the hospital where the baby was born, Dr BS Soni, said "There is no harm of any kind in having 26 fingers, but it is a genetic anomaly. The girl is otherwise absolutely healthy."

It is not currently known whether the family are planning to have their newborn girl undergo surgery to reduce the number of digits on each limb.

Tuesday, 16th March, 2019, a local Nigerian Fisherman from Bayelsa captured a Blue Marlin Fish reportedly worth $2.6 million but ate it with his friends.

According to AFP Fact Check, the alleged $2.6 million value of the fish was taken from a July 2019 article by CNBC on the White Marlin Open in the US - a week-long fishing competition held every August.

The $2.6 million payout was for the largest white marlin caught during the 2018 competition; however, the largest blue marlin received a prize of $924,000.

CNBC also reports that, the marlin fish is worth about $31,325.30 per pound. Furthermore, the females, which are significantly larger than males, can reach 14 feet in length and weigh more than 1,985 pounds, while average sizes tend to be in the range of 11 feet and 200 to 400 pounds.

The fish is not primarily intended for human consumption because it contains unhealthy amounts of mercury and other contaminants; however, their meat is considered a delicacy, particularly in Japan, where it is served raw as “Sashimi.”

The blue marlin of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans are more widely pursued by sport fishermen than any other marlin species. Their wide distribution in tropical oceanic waters and seasonally into temperate zones makes them available to many anglers, and their potential to reach great sizes and spectacular fighting ability makes them a highly desired catch to some anglers.

the fisherman missed out on the opportunity fo a lifetime.
